“They said they didn’t want to take any risk,” Luhan spits. “What the fuck? How is me being Chinese a disadvantage? It’s not like I want to become the next president; I just want to work at a freaking restaurant. I got my visa, I’m fluent is this damn language, I’ve even worked in Korea before! Now imagine Chinese tourists coming in for dinner - could anyone serve them as well as me? I think not!”
Sehun and Jongin exchange a quick glance. They haven’t seen Luhan this angry since Minseok fouled him during a soccer match in the past summer.
“You’re just too handsome. They were probably afraid you’d make everyone else look like shit and used your nationality as a lousy excuse,” Sehun says matter-of-factly.
Jongin chuckles. “I’m pretty sure it was his brainpower that scared them. Like whoa, shit, fluent in two languages, excellent grades in every subject ever, stunning job references - he’s gonna take the place over in less than a day!”
Luhan snorts. “I should sue that employer.”
Sehun scrunches up his nose. “And waste your precious time on them? Nah, they’re not worth it, Xiao Lu.”
The oldest of the trio sighs in frustration and props his elbows up on the table, resting his head on both of his hands. “Will you buy me ice cream?” he asks with a pout. His friends smile at the sudden change in Luhan’s expression.
“Sure,” Jongin replies, ruffling Luhan’s hair affectionately.
“I’ll pay,” Sehun offers. “Jongin already bought bubble tea when I was upset last time and I really don’t want him to go broke - although I wouldn’t necessarily mind him begging for things,” he says jokingly.
Luhan suppresses a grin. “Yeah, the more he’d ask of us, the more indebted he’d become and that would be a perfect excuse for making him our servant, wouldn’t it?”
“I could speak informally to him all the time,” Sehun ponders.
“Right, because you’re not already constantly doing that,” Jongin counters, not quite hiding his amusement.
“Keep quiet, slave!”
“Hey, I’m not even indebted to you guys yet!”
“Are you sure about that?” Sehun asks, glaring at the older boy mischievously.
Luhan laughs silently as he instantly knows what he is alluding to. “You don’t seem to remember that one night at the club when you met that Japanese guy and accidental-“
“Shut up already, oh my God, Luhan! You promised to never talk about that! Both of you did!” Jongin exclaims, appalled at the Chinese boy’s words.
Sehun leans back in his chair with a smug grin. “Totally indebted.”
Luhan chuckles. “I know, right? Now where’s my ice cream?”
Jongin glowers at the youngest and folds his arms in front of his chest. “Yeah, Sehun, where’s his ice cream? And mine, too?”
“I nev-“ Sehun starts to protest but Jongin immediately interrupts him. “Nuh uh, I bought bubble tea for all of us and remember when I didn’t pass the driving test? Luhan paid ramen for three people that day. Your turn, maknae.”
Sehun holds his arms up in surrender. “Alright, alright. I’ll pay for everyone.”
“You’ll have your second test tomorrow, right, Jongin?” Luhan remembers. “Who’s gonna pay then?”
Jongin looks at him blankly for a moment, ignoring Sehun’s snicker. “Are you implying I’ll fail again?”
“Well…”
“You know, I really hate you sometimes.”
“Naww, sorry, Jong, I didn’t mean it.” Luhan grins and leans over to give Jongin a quick peck on his cheek. The younger boy makes a disgusted face but both Luhan and Sehun know it’s only an act.
“Ew, why do you always do stuff like that?”
Luhan chuckles. “Because you’re my best friend, silly.”
“How can he be your best friend? I thought that was my title,“ Sehun interjects.
“But you’re Jongin’s best friend, too, aren’t you?” Luhan remarks calmly.
“Yeah, well… yeah.”
“I love you guys,” Jongin laughs. “Now get us ice cream, Sehun.”
