This was one of those horrible days where his supervisor was scapegoating him for losing three clients, when he had absolutely nothing to do with those particular ones. Too bad said supervisor didn’t realize his mistake three hours after the very embarrassing and loud ”lecture”.

To make things worse, it was only Monday.

“Baekhyun, I’m definitely not in the mood.” Sehun says as he’s packing up his suitcase. Life as a banker was stressful as it was, but bad days were just…straight-up bad.

Sehun isn’t that big of a drinker. In fact, he doesn’t really like anything alcoholic in general. So when Baekhyun invites him to a local club after work, he rolls his eyes dramatically and fights back a long sigh.

“But that’s exactly why we need to go out for a drink. You need to loosen up after what happened today. Did you even know the interns are even mentioning you?” Baekhyun said excitingly while pacing around Sehun’s cubicle.

“Can’t we just, I don’t know, go to the mall or something?” Sehun runs a hand through the front of his hair.

“Really.” Baekhyun pauses and deadpans. “The mall.”

“Better than the club.” Sehun mutters, stuffing some more documents and folders into his bag. “Besides, we know exactly how this is going to play out. We’ll walk in together, but you’ll just leave me at the table or the counter to hit it off with some guys or something.”

“Plural? You know I don’t play dudes like that, it’s so rude.” Baekhyun retorts. “Besides, this isn’t about me, it’s about you, and you need to have some fun. How long has it been since…” Baekhyun squints, looking up as if the gods would remind him of-

“Minseok.” Sehun says for him.

“Right,” Baekhyun starts, waving him off as if he knew the name all along.

The problem with being friends with Byun Baekhyun is that the older boy is super picky with who he hangs out with. Sehun still doesn’t really know how he passed the test, but either way Baekhyun always gets around. Always. He knows every dirty little secret in everyone’s life, which it makes it that much harder to be in a long-lasting relationship.

“Munsack.” Baekhyun emphasizes, moments later.

Did he mention that he liked to butcher names?

Sehun huffs out a sigh.

“Hey, hey, mister. Don’t you huff at me.” Baekhyun wags a finger at Sehun while hopping onto the latter desk.

On top of some papers he needed. The now wrinkled papers that he needed. He guesses he could print them again. Or something.

“We are going to go to the club, and you are going to order whatever fruity shit you like to drink and-”

“I don’t-”

“And we are going to have some fun. That’s final. ” Baekhyun doesn’t let Sehun say anymore as he hops off and makes his way to the elevator.

Sehun hits his head against the back of his seat a couple times.

----------------------

“When did you even have time to change?” Sehun asks incredulously, staring at Baekhyun. He was sporting a snake-skinned silver jacket with spiked shoulder pads and underneath was a thin tank top.

“You weren't carrying anything at work. Who wears spiked shoulder pads anymore anyway? Wait, is this new?” Sehun reaches out to Baekhyun’s collar, but the older boy slaps his hand away.

“Sehun, did you really think I would come to the bar in my work clothes?” Baekhyun snorts and adjusts his jacket. “What you’re wearing is fine, though. Maybe it’ll fulfill some people’s kinks or something. Businessmen shack up, or something.”

“Oh, god, why are you so embarrassing?” Sehun covers his face with his hands as he gets dragged into the club.

“Sehun, it seems like forever ago, but there was a time when we would always come out and have drinks with a group. But ever since Munsack…” Baekhyun waves his drink around and Sehun stares at the glass he was holding, hoping that he wouldn’t spill it all over himself.

“Besides, it’s been like, what, a year now?” Baekhyun almost slams his drink onto the table.

“More like three months, but close enough, I guess.” Sehun mutters before taking a small sip of his cheap beer.

Kim Minseok, 26, cafe owner. Because of him, Sehun fell in love with the smells of coffee, tea and spicy herbs.

----------------------

“The music really sucks here.” Baekhyun suddenly yells over the beats of whatever hip hop song was playing.

“Sorry, Baekhyun, I doubt they’re going to be playing “The Boys” anytime soon.”

“But it’s the perfect clubbing song.” Baekhyun whines, clearly getting drunk on his sixth glass.

Another problem with being Byun Baekhyun’s friend is that he has the worst tolerance for alcohol-despite being the one to invite you out.

Baekhyun suddenly stands up, hitting an empty glass onto the table once again. Sehun slightly widens his eyes, bemused at the turn of events.

“I’m going to the dance floor.” He suddenly announces, and hops over to the dance floor while screaming, “WE BRING THE BOYS OUT!”

This could explain why he has never seen his older friend in a steady relationship, Sehun chuckles as he experiences secondhand embarrassment for his friend.

He wonders how Baekhyun can do it. In the past five years that he has been working at this company, Sehun has never seen Baekhyun get frustrated with his work, and he’s constantly praised during presentations and for his monthly reports. Baekhyun has a great social life, and gets along with practically anyone-even those who seem to have complete opposite personalities than him. So why couldn't he manage to keep his friends too?

Sehun rolls his shoulders and stares at the empty glasses in front of him. He scrunches his nose at how much both of them had to drink, focusing on the single droplet of beer falling from the glass to merge with the puddle of melted ice.

Sehun looks up and around him to see if there are any waiters nearby, but only girls and boys and boys pretending to be girls huddled with their boyfriends and groups of friends enjoying their time in the night scene greet him.

Sehun exhales slightly before looking back at Baekhyun again. Still on the dance floor, but this time a lot of people are whooping at the outrageous dance moves that the weird guy in the sparkly outfit is showing off. Sehun laughs, almost tempted to record him as he does a weird robot-esque move. In the end, he decides against it (Baekhyun would surely burn him on a stake), and the young man notices an empty bar in the far corner.

With a shrug, he makes his way over.

Rolling up his sleeves, Sehun takes a seat at the counter and looks to the side as he waits for the bartender to finish his current task. He hears the crowd cheer again and turns around to see Baekhyun dancing to some choreography with some girls.

“Pretty rowdy tonight.” A slightly-accented voice says from behind and Sehun turns his head back to see a young man wearing a white dress shirt and a vest. He’s cleaning a glass and sporting a polite smile.

“Yeah.” Sehun says, slightly chuckling, not wanting to say what was on his mind.

“So.” The bartender starts, placing the glass down to the side with one hand and tucking a towel on a rack with the other. “What’ll you have?” The bartender stares at Sehun with his full attention and Sehun awkwardly averts eye contact to look behind the man.

“Um, any wine would be fine.” Sehun responds. “Just to wash this cheap beer down.”

The bartender smiles again and nods in understanding. He turns around and Sehun looks at the various bottles on the counters. After a while, his gaze lands straight ahead, where Sehun sees a reflection of himself staring back at him.

The bartender comes back around again, his smile still unchanged.

“Sorry it took me a while. Not a lot of people come here to drink wine.” He says playfully, as he places an unopened wine bottle in front of him. He bites on his thumbnail for a while before having an a-ha moment. Sehun watches as the bartender reached out a corkscrew and finally realizes what was happening.

“Oh, you don’t have to ope-”

Pop!

“It’s really no problem. No one has bought wine in a while anyway.”

Sehun slightly gapes and just watches as dark crimson liquid pours into a tall glass. Finally, the bartender places a napkin on the counter and places the glass next to it.

“This is one of my favorite wines, so I hope you like it.” The bartender flashes another easy smile and Sehun can’t help but smile back.

He picks up the glass from its bowl, and swishes it around for a bit. When he looks up, he notices that the bartender was looking at the wine too.

“Is it bothering you?” Sehun asks, and the bartender immediately looks to him and blinks a couple of times with slight confusion.

“Sorry?”

“The swishing. Is it bothering you?” Sehun raises his glass slightly and nods to it.

“Oh, not at all.” The bartender laughs. “It’s just…darker than I remembered.”

Sehun raises a brow. “Darker.”

“Yeah, this particular red wine is usually not as dense.” The bartender taps his chin with his index finger.

“But the color doesn’t really affect the taste.” Sehun says with a matter-of-fact tone, before taking a sip.

“I just like things that are pleasing to the eye.” The bartender smirks before sliding over to attend to the woman at the end of the counter.

“Who doesn’t?” Sehun asks no one in particular, taking another sip from his glass.
