Livia is the strange girl in the hallway, the one that everyone seems to get out of their way to avoid.
even the teachers dislike her for her abnormal behavior.
even more, they hate her white mask; the one with the marker smears painting a swirl on the white cheek.

Livia used to want attention so much that she envied anyone she thought looked better than her.
but now she just likes to be invisible. in class and everywhere else.
her classmates seemed at peace with leaving her alone, since they really didn't want to be close to her, and her teachers looked right through her.
which was fine.
until, Silvia transferred to Livia's class.
Silvia acted as if her only wish in life was to see what is Livia trying so hard to hide.
pretending to bump into her in hopes the white mask would fall to the floor in pieces.
throwing the ball a bit too rough, a bit too deliberately in the direction of the side benches, where Livia spent her P.E lessons.
Livia tried to ignore this obnoxious curiosity the new girl seemed to have toward her.
Silvia was just fascinated with what may be under the white mask, even going as far as to follow Livia into the school's bathroom.
Livia washed her hand in silence.
she couldn't talk anyway.
Silvia kept asking her to show her what's under the mask.
"is it a scar?" Silvia repeated.
again and again until she realized how silly she looked, being ignored by the school's freak.
lunging forward, she angrily grabbed and the mask and pulled it so hard that it shattered on the wall behind her.

Silvia let out a terrified scream, her voice bouncing off the tiles
gripping the endge of the sink she fell backwards, staring at what she tried so hard to see.
nothing.
there was nothing under the mask.
the emptiness seemed to blur as features appeared, like the sketch of a pencil, slowly shade by shade.
eyes as brown as her own, eyebrows knotted in a shocked expression, lips open in a silent scream that had long faded away.
she could do nothing but watch as Livia's features stopped appearing and stared into a face so familiar.
her own face.
Livia's face relaxed into a slight smile.
"Thanks." she whispered. nothing nice in her voice.

no one knows what happened to the masked girl and no one asked, they figured she transferred or just dropped out of school, they were just relieved she was gone.
but she was sitting at the lunch table with them.
"here you go Silvia, you forgot this" a boy handed the brown-eyed girl her paper.
she gave him a slight smile.
"Thanks."
