I had to cut myself off. God, I have crazy love for the man. I can't think of a more interesting character on television--though part of that is that you wouldn't expect it from a seemingly cookie-cutter crime lab serial.

exactly. the man stands out in the series. in television, really.

The characters make CSI, IMHO. Catherine is unique--Sara--Greg--and, dare I say it, especially Nick. He's coded as a woman, but that doesn't make him into some kind of emasculated, hysterical caricature--which shows that the writers and the actor are openminded on a number of levels.
