Wheeeeeeeeeeee, Pimping!New!Fandom!!!

Okay, I'll assume you know something about DC comics to begin with. You're my age; you know the SuperFriends. (Things have come a loooooong way since then. Thank God. *g*)

DCUniverse Primer. This is wirtten from a fanfic POV, but as you're a writer, that's fine. Slaaaaaaaashy. It even comments on the skashiness; some of the canon is just unbelievably man-on-man. And woman-on-woman. Oddly enough, the fanfic tends to ignore het, lol.

There's a truckload of great links at the end of the post; the most important one for the new reader is probably dcfic_index. Once you've figured out where you want to start, it will get you there. The other biggie is dc_central, which is pretty much just as it sounds, but I find jl_fic to be better, in the sense of "go here for stories".

The DC fanfic out there can get pretty confusing, because it often mixes comics!canon with TV!canon, either the various cartoons, or Smallville. Often a piece will ostensibly be set in the "toon" setting, but other characters from the DCU will be written in, often in major rolls, being drawn from comics canon because they haven't been explored on TV. But you being you, I doubt that will cause much problem, heh.

Okay, if you want some crack (and this fandom can provide almost as much crack as Pop can...) and are vaguely familiar with the animated Justice League cartoon (sorry I don't have a handy link for that...) try this one. Genderfuckery, crack, and that delightful paradoxial genre of camp WITHOUT the tongue-in-cheek. I think it stands well enough on its own without personal famiarity with the cartoon/canon, but I'm a lousy judge of such since I'm familiar with the canon in half-a-dozen different ways. My objectivity is a bit lacking, heh.

For an AWESOME author, check out Te. Her stuff is just amazing. I think one of my favorites is Black Sky, which is a bizarre AU that starts out with Robin being killed... ..and Superboy replaces him. Messy-weird-fun, but I lurved it. I strongly recommend reading enough OTHER Tim/Kon to get a feel for things before reading that one, though. Your perspective will be too skewed, otherwise. Te has a great Tim/Kon series that would probably make a decent starting point, Connection.

I'm afraid that's all I can offer for "places to begin". I've maintained half a foot in the fandom since the old SuperFriends days and kinda just absorbed the rest as I went along; I'm not real sure on where to direct someone. But I'm sure you'll do fine, Enjoy!
