Hei's target didn't understand it when she approched him with aid, with promises to make his life easier, to put him on top. He didn't understand it because it was all a lie, a lie he bought hook line and sinker, it was perfect, everything was perfect. From the deal right down to her agents releasing the enslaved mutants behind the man's back, he would know about it until later, if he managed to escape the fate awaiting him
( ... )
He was certainly out there, keeping a close eye on things. When waiting for the target to come out, he didn't expect to see that familiar long green hair. Hair that reached down her back and was that color that they assigned mint colors, but not quite right.
Even from several stories up, he recognized her. He always did, even after five years.
That voice, she couldn't forget it even if she wanted to and she didn't want to, it danced on the edge of her hearing and brightened her smile. He was really here! The thought alone brought her joy beyond anything she could have expected, the meet no longer registered in her mind, it was no longer important, that man's fate was sealed anyway, he could not escape it.
She broke away from the meet spot, looking for the source, scouring for places he would hide; she knew him after all, his tricks, his habits, five years of separation meant both noting and everything to her.
"Come on out Hei." Amber did not yell, or raise her voice, she spoke calmly, with a teasing edge, like a cat baiting a mouse with a wheel of cheese.
He could feel his blood boiling up with rage. A good mercenary would know to stick to the mission, but that unwritten guidebook seemed to fall further from his reach the longer he looked at her. It was because of her betrayal that the incident that South America occurred. Because of her that his sister...
Hei lunged out at his hiding spot, using his wire to break any fall. His aim was directly at Amber, who besides the red was the only thing he could see, the weapons dealer forgotten.
Anyone else would run, anyone else would fear the Reaper that descending upon them with such fury, such anger. But she is not anyone else, Amber simply stands there as the world around them disappears, each only focusing on the other.
She stood as if ready to accept what judgment he has in store for her, never moving, never fearing; fear was not a thing Amber felt, at least not for herself. Her power granted her knowledge, knowledge of the future, the past, of her own death. This was not the place, she would walk away from here as effortlessly as she came to it.
"Hei." It was fury she saw in his face, a part of her was disappointed but she knew he would not smile or welcome her back into his life with open arms. He has not smiled since Bai died. "It's been so long, I'm so happy to see you again."
He would be at the perfect position to strike as he landed down at her, one slash and her throat would be in pieces. He restrained himself, however, for now. He needed answers before he killed her for her betrayal.
"Don't give me that!" Talking like they were old friends meeting up again, after what she- "Why the hell are you here?!"
"Why am I here?" She giggled, her laugh almost taunting, like she was telling him he knows nothing, nothing at all. Despite the danger she moved closer to him, a hand reaching up to touch his cheek, how she has missed him, how her heart ached, and here he is, right in front of her, looking at her as if she was the worst person in the world.
"It is a nice city, New York, full of people both interesting and cruel." No, she would not answer his question. It should have been clear to him that she was here for him, to make him smile, everything she does ultimately leads back to him. The weapons dealer for example, would not survive, when he returned to his abode to see his slaves freed he would certainly be surprised to see the bombs planted around the complex. And a timer that just expired.
He slapped her hand away when it came near his cheek. His eyes showed all his hatred and anger towards her. How could he not feel it after everything she had taken away from him? It was one thing to think that she had died in the incident five years ago. But to find out she's been alive all these years...
The smile vanished and tone turned almost cold, her hand stinging just a little as it hung at her side. "Maybe you will find out, soon." Perhaps she deserved that, after what happened. But then the childish air returned, her voice became indignant and her expression put off, like a child who had just been told they cannot have the one thing they want the most.
"Don't you have anything else to say to me, Hei? Don't you want to know how I survived? You really should be asking questions that actually matter."
He couldn't care less about her indignation towards his action. To tell the truth, now that she was alive, he was planning on killing her for her betrayal eventually anyway. Set something right in this world.
"Come with me and maybe I'll let you see her." It was cruel, she knew, using Bai to lure him in, knowing full well what the girl's fate was. She was there, she saw what happened, she knows what happened, nothing could change that. But...
She wanted him on her side, to have him stand beside her as they watch the world unravel.
"You'd think I'd trust that?" How much of an idiot did she think he was? Yet at the same time, the temptation was there. He knew it was likely to be a trap, but any chance to find his sister...
If it was easy she would be worried. She knows him, he isn't stupid and she did not expect it to be easy, she expected complications. Humming she turned, walking a few paces towards the edge of the peer. "You're not the only one looking for her, Hei, and the shadows have ears." Truth, this time, at least in part.
Stopping dead she turns slightly, looking over her shoulder at him with that coy smile of hers. "Of course I do, I've known all along where she is." Gone, but he doesn't need to know that, not yet at least.
The rage boiled up in him again, the hatred. She knew where his sister was, and she was hiding it from him. Before he knew it, he lunged at her again, with the intent of strangling her.
"I don't have time for games! Tell me where my sister is!"

This would end tonight.

All for him.

But there was one question that mattered.
"Where is Bai?"
