1. How did you meet your husband?
That is one of my favorite stories to tell. You know how Disney presents love stories with happy endings, quirky and instant love beginings and such? That wasn't us. And then it was.
In 2000 I was dating our now friend, Joel. He was having a "Star Wars" RPG at his place. I just happened to show up. I am now friends with most of the guys who were there. Among them, my future husband. I remembered him, as all of the guys were introduced to me by the names of the characters they were playing. His name was "Mouse". He never said anything while I was there, and he ended up leaving early.
Next time I saw him was at the Koronaberg fair. He was one of the "crew" in a skit we did every morning called, "Waking the Captain". He always had himself positioned at the beginning of the skit "asleep" at the top of a 10ft 12" diameter pole. Pretty sure it was a telephone pole that had been cut off. Anyway, I remember trying to figure out how he got up there, and how he could hang limply on his stomach like that.
That was also the first time he remembered meeting me.
From that time until the middle of 2001 I never really saw him. He then moved into the second bedroom of the apartment Joel and I were living in. By October of 2001, Joel and I split and I moved back in with my Dad. By then, Darren and I were good friends.
Not long after that he was moved from "reservist" in the Marine Corps, to "active" and lived on base at Camp Pendleton. I was living in Simi Valley and going to school.
On April 6, 2003 we went to California Adventure (Disneyland Resort) together. I thought it was just friends going and having fun. Did I notice the flowers he gave me when I picked him up for the gesture they were meant for? Nope. Did I notice that he paid for everything? Nope. Did I notice him trying to hold my hand or do any of the other traditional "date" or "couple" type things? Nope. It wasn't until the end of the day at dinner when were eating by candlelight that it finally hit me and I stoopidly asked, "is this a date?" He just smiled and kept eating his steak.
In September of 2004 we moved into an apartment in Fullerton.
On April 6th, 2008 we married.
2. What's your favorite sleeping weather and why?
COLD. Very cold. And if it is raining, even better! I love to have the weight of quilts and blankets on me to snuggle while I sleep. Everyone tells me I "cocoon" when I sleep.
3. What is your plan for living through a zombie apocalypse?
Ever play FallOut?
Ever see the movie with Blast from the Past?
That is pretty much what I would do. But bring anyone with my who wasn't affected.
4. What's a skill that you have that would surprise folks who know you well?
LEARN
I still surprise even my husband by how quickly I can pick up knew skills without any training. I only need to watch, read or listen to something once to be able to pick it up. It's never perfect, but I am not afraid to keep trying till it is to the quality I expect.
I also pick up and learn more about stuff in general than most people realize. I know more about the things going on around me than some people give me credit for.
It also helps that I CONSTANTLY want to learn something new. I tend to pick something up and master the skill quicker than I anticipate, so of course I want to find something new to challenge myself.
This is one skill that has really helped me adapt to life as it changes around me. I like schedules, plans and organization. So of course when things change on me, I don't take it well. Being able, willing and wanting to learn has helped me adapt better.
5. Milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, or dark chocolate?
Semi-Sweet
Milk is always too sweet and dark tends to be too bitter
