Promise to Us
I never told you this, Baekhyun, but when you told me you loved me for the first time I made a promise. Not to just you or just me, but to the both of us though I won’t tell you that promise just yet. For now just listen.
We’ve been together for three years now and I wish to be together for a hundred years more.
Even though we may not have much money now, but I try to give you everything. There are times I feel that one day you’ll wake up and realize that I’m not worthy of your love. I love you and want to be with you forever so I will take whatever measures possible to make you only mine, which is why today I was taking you somewhere special.
Eight o’clock in the evening, we had already eaten and were walking along the busy streets holding hands. I was listening to you talk about the hectic day you had had today and every time you starting to look worked up about it, I would kiss the side of your head and you’d look instantly happy again. I was glad I had that effect on you.
I have a Happy Virus, remember?
You didn’t seem to notice where we were walking since you were so busy chatting about everything and anything, but after stopping by a familiar looking creek, you seemed to be pulled back to reality. You looked around, smiling at everything. It was adorable.
I inconspicuously touched my back pocket feeling the something I had hidden in there for you.
“We’re at the place you kissed me for the second time,” you said, biting your lip. You looked so happy and I just wanted to kiss you once again to let our memories together come flooding back to us. You sighed happily, enjoying the slight breeze.
“Aw, so you remember,” I said jokingly, winking.
You laughed and slapped my shoulder. You always were the violent one.
“Of course I remember! It was one of the most special moments in my life!” you nearly shouted, crossing your arms defiantly. “That day really was fantastic.”
I couldn’t help it. I smiled widely at you and pulled you into my arms, hugging you tightly as I rested my chin on your head. I felt you wrap your arms around my torso, making me feel warm despite the air being a bit chilly.
“I love you, Baekhyun” I said softly, my heart threatening to jump out of my chest.
“I love you too, baby,” I heard you mumble against me.
All or nothing.
“Baek….These past few years with you have been amazing,” I started, readying to give my full confession. “And truth is, I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
I felt you turn stiff and I tried not to laugh. I knew what you were thinking.
“I want to marry you and I know you want that too.”
You pulled away and I could see the tears beginning to accumulate in your eyes already. That didn’t take long at all. You sniffled, giving me a shaky smile. “You’re proposing to me, aren’t you?” you said, making it more of a statement than a question.
“In a sense,” I admitted, reaching into my back pocket and pulling out the gold circle, holding it up between my fingers for you to see. It was a gold twist-tie, where you often find in the kitchen. “I know we’re not exactly in the most financially stable at the moment so I can’t propose to you like how I wanted to, but….”
I sighed, smiling as I took your hands and placing the makeshift ring on your finger.
“I want to promise you this-soon, someday, I will tie us together forever with a real ring. We’ll spend the rest of our lives together and no one can tear us apart. For now, however, I want to be engaged to you-I want to be engaged to be engaged.”
“’Engaged to be engaged’?” you laugh, grinning widely as you looked at the twist-tie on your finger.
“Think of it as an insurance for when I really ask you to marry me,” I joked.
Not wasting a second, you jumped up on me to wrap your arms around my neck and for a moment I thought you were going to choke me. I was happy though when you placed your lips against mine and I immediately poured every bit of my love for you into the kiss.
“Well, Park Chanyeol, I accept your insurance proposal,” you said, kissing me once more quickly before pulling away. “But you need to do it correctly, as you said.”
“I’ll do the whole kneeling thing and everything, my love,” I said, feeling like I owned the world.
I made a promise to us when you told me you loved me for the first time.
I promised us that we would be tied together forever with rings because I knew that was your fantasy. I would make your fantasy a reality, my love.
