Mother has discovered that the cat (Alexandra) likes cherry pie. That's a bit unexpected. I don't think either one of us has ever had a normal cat.

I have a new phone, a Motorola G6. I like it fairly well, except that the volume and power buttons are reversed from where I expect them, so that causes a bit of fumbling. I love that if I pick it up or otherwise disturb it, it briefly shows me time and battery charge, which is exactly what I'm picking it up for a lot of the time. Also, if I lay it face down, it goes into do-not-disturb mode, which supports my fantasies of being a Geroo.
Many, many sensors on this device, to support large amounts of features, including making the selfie-cam watch for my face, and keep the screen live while I'm looking at the phone (useful), and even, if I want, making the phone unlock itself when I look at it. I can imagine that leading to embarassment, though. There's a fingerprint sensor on the back as well that I'm using for unlocking, which is convenient. I like it being quick to open, but I still want that to require a definite act of intention on my part, and not just looking at the phone. Keeping that many sensors alive and waiting requires a fair amount of power. The phone comes with a mighty 4 amp-hour battery, which would ordinarily be impressive. In this case, that's just enough to keep it in light use/standby for about 48 hours, it seems. I'm going to have to get in the habit of putting it on the charger before bedtime every night. My last Motorola phone, perhaps 12-14 years ago, would need charging about every two weeks, with normal use. This one uses the new invertable type of USB connector too, which is nicely designed, but incompatible with the old-style plugs and sockets, although the power supply remains the same. I probably need to get a spare cable soon.
Edit: Motorola G7, it seems.
