Re-Opening! W00t!

May 03, 2020 01:02

So, we're going to begin re-opening Monday. W00t! Statewide, hospitalizations have been falling steadily for 14 days, and we have *serious* over-capacity to deal with surges, should they happen. At the worst of it, we still had more than half of our ICU slots going unused. I'm grateful to live in Indiana. We don't have quite the deep pockets of a state such as Ohio, but we're by no means hard-up.

The governor, quite sensibly, has decided to re-open the state by sections. So Marion County (Indianapolis) and Lake County (Gary), along with Cass County (where they had that huge Tyson Foods outbreak) are going to stay on lockdown. Somewhat worryingly, there's no prohibition against Cass Countians leaving their county to go to neighboring ones. I saw a car with Cass plates today at the grocery store.

By the Fourth of July, assuming that everything goes well, we should be fully open again. Assuming that it all goes to plan, it will be a memorable and happy Fourth of July. The governor assures us that, as of now, the State Fair is on schedule. You can see a summary of the plan at https://backontrack.in.gov/files/BackOnTrack-IN_WhatsOpen-Closed.pdf . I'm unsure if the local library is going to open Monday or not. I got my driver's license *just* as everything shut down, so I've been unable to get a card. Restaurants open with restricted capacity a week after Stage 2 starts, i.e., May 11th. Original posted at https://rain-gryphon.dreamwidth.org/150046.html
