The water rippled over the rocks, clear and pure. Draco watched silently as the little brook passed just beyond his feet. He had been sitting there for hours just watching the steady stream of clear water flow past while lost in his own thoughts. His father had informed him that when he went home for Yule the betrothal contract with Pansy would be signed, whether he agreed or not. And he definitely didn't agree. The last thing Draco wanted was to spend his life tied to the girl. He cared for Pansy, she was his best friend but the female form had never stirred him. To be married to a woman would be hell.

"How long have you been out here, Malfoy?"

Jerking his head up, Draco stared at the figure leaning against a nearby tree. Potter smirked at him from behind round frames and the Slytherin wondered idly when the Gryffindor had learned to smirk.

"Half the school is looking for you," Potter informed him as the dark haired youth walked over and took a seat on a rock by Draco.

"Only half?" the Slytherin snorted.

"Yeah, well the other half is hoping something terrible had befallen you and we wouldn't have to deal with you ever again," replied Potter with a slightly grinned.

"And what category do you fall in, Potter?" Draco asked, glaring at the other boy.

"I was worried," Potter admiited quietly. "It's not like you to just disappear for hours. Normally you're too busy holding court over your minions."

Draco laughed at that. It was true after all. "Well, they had to do without me for today."

"Why?"

Casting a questioning glance at Potter, Draco wondered if he should answer. So far he had found no way out of the contract on his own and Slytherin cunning hadn't managed to find him a loophole yet. Perhaps Potter could think of an out for him.

"I have to get married," he started, his voice soft. "Right now it's only the betrothal contract I have to deal with, but once that's signed it basically a done deal."

"To who?"

"Pansy."

"Well, you two are close," Potter replied, his voice just as quiet. "It shouldn't be that bad."

"Except I don't want to marry her," Draco pointed out. "Or any woman actually."

"I suppose that would be an issue." When Draco looked over he could see a stunned look on Potter's face. "What are you going to do?"

"There's nothing I can do," he sighed. "There's no spots for negotiation in the damn thing."

"Well, is there a way to void it out entirely?"

"What do you mean?" Draco was confused.

"There has to be something that will make it impossible for you to marry her, right?" Potter continued.

"I guess, but I have no ideas," Draco slumped. "I'm doomed."

"Hey, you're not doomed," Potter snapped. "And if I can defeat Voldemort I can find some way to help you defeat a damn contract!"

"Really?" Draco winced at how needy he sounded.

"But at a price," Potter said, another smirk on his lips.

"Price?" That was new. Normally Gryffindor's did things for other just to help. They were the good guys after all.

"Yes," Potter continued, " a price. Give me something and I will help you get out of the contract."

"What?" he asked feeling resigned. It wasn't like he had a choice.

"A kiss."

Shocked, Draco turned and stared at the dark haired youth. Potter wanted a kiss. He had to have heard wrong. "Potter, have you gone mad? I should go get Madam Pomphrey. And maybe Snape. Definitely Dumbledore, he'd know-"

The flow of words cut of as Potter's lips settled over his in a soft kiss. Draco paused with his eyes wide and then they drifted closed and he melted into the kiss. It stayed soft and sweet at first, just a meeting of lips. Then Potter pressed harder and his tongue ventured out to taste Draco's lips. Moaning, the Slytherin gave in and opened his mouth to the questing muscle. Quickly the kiss turned hot and deep and Potter pulled Draco over to him, on him. Settling on Potter's lap, Draco kissed back, paying Potter's price and then some.

They kissed and kissed and time passed them until finally Potter broke away, breathing hard. He buried his face in Draco's neck and panted softly. Draco wasn't much better and he slumped against Potter as he tried to regain his equilibrium.

"Hmm, that just gave me a brilliant idea," Potter announced.

"And what's that?"

"Marry me instead."
