Ella pushed her feet against the ground, setting the swing into motion. It was dark, the different playground equipment casting long distorted shadows over the ground. Truthfully, this wasn't where she wanted to be at night, especially knowing what she knew, But sometimes there wasn't a choice.

"Are you following my, Lt. Caine?" she asked quietly, not turning to look at the man standing behind her.

"You're in a park in the middle of the night," Caine pointed out quietly. "You're one of the better ME's, of course I followed you."

Ella allowed a small smile. "Take a seat."

Caine eased himself into one of the other swings, turning his head to watch her. "Why are you out here?"

"Meeting someone," Ella answered quietly. "Sometimes the best places are the oddest places."

"Harris?"

"No," she smiled. He had almost growled the name out. She knew Xander pushed all of the lieutenant's buttons on purpose every time he showed up in town. Part of her wanted him to stop since it always came down on her in the end. The rest of her thought it was hilarious. "Xander's out of the country right now. My other contact is a little more abrasive than Xander. Just a warning, Lieutenant, he will say things to get a rise out of you."

"Harris already does that," Caine pointed out.

"Yeah, but the whelp has nothing on me," a British voice said from the darkness. A thin blonde man stepped out of the shadows and smirked at them.

Caine was on his feet, he hand on his gun while Ella just giggled. She knew Spike was there. Somehow she always knew. Xander had said something about age and potiental, but it hadn't made any sense. All she knew is that Spike couldn't sneak up on her. Something she was thankful for.

"Hey Spike," she called out, drawing the blonde's attention off the glaring redhead.

"Doing okay?" Spike asked, walking closer.

"Decent," she shrugged. "Business has been up though."

"That's why I'm here," Spike told her. "Got some idiot warlock trying to raise an army."

"Um, I'm not quite up for an army, Spike," Ella said, blinking in shock. "One on one is one thing."

"Don't need you to take on the army," Spike assured her. "Beth's here and I brought a few of the little ones for some training. No, I need you to take out the warlock. He's one himself."

"A zombie raising zombies," she groaned. "Somewhere along the way my life became a third rate horror flick."

"Join the club," Spike snorted, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. "You up to it?"

"Have to be with Xander gone," she reminded him, pushing off the swing. "Tonight?"

"Yep. Beth will be covering you. Might send one of the babies too."

"Babies?" Caine asked, finally shaking off his shock.

"How much does he know?" Spike asked Ella.

"Not much," she shrugged. "Xander told him the basics. Got to see one of the bars and a few zombies. Nothing more."

"Bloody hell, a newbie," Spike snarled, his face rippling briefly.

"What the hell are you?" Caine asked, moving to push Ella behind him.

"Vampire, mate," Spike grinned, allowed him demonic face to come forward. "A Master vampire at that. I'm a white hat though. Work on the side of kittens and puppies everywhere."

"I'm telling Xander you said that," Ella laughed, stepping around Caine.

"Shut it," Spike mock snarled. "Come on."

"You're not taking her anywhere," Caine said firmly.

"This is still part of my job, Lieutenant," Ella told him seriously. "And as strange as he may be, Spike can be trusted." She paused. "Most of the time."

"Be nice," Spike chided laughingly. "Bring him if you want, but keep an eye on him. Last thing I need is a zombie cop walking around." He started off.

"Coming, Lieutenant?" Ella asked, grabbing her back from beside the swing set.

"Yes, I think I will be."
