Minseok feigns indifference, feigns his boredom to playing soccer once again in Shanghai, China. The noise of the crowds roar once Jongdae finishes his newly released Mandarin solo, but Minseok can’t hear it over the rush of seeing and hearing soccer players running back and forth in front of him, his heart beating too fast to truly acknowledge gelled hair and sparkling eyes staring back at him across the field.

It’s been years yet it feels like it was only yesterday he had caramel hair and no meat on his bones, that his opponent across from him had strawberry-colored hair and that same, bright smile on his face.

He feels a nudge against his side, his dark hair falling in his eyes, and he looks up to see Minho giving a small, friendly smile to their opponent as well. “Ready?” he quietly asks, not even looking back at him.

Minseok isn’t quite sure but he doesn’t get a chance to choose, the referee already calling for both teams to join the field. Even while being older than Minho, he relies on the more experienced idol to drag him forward, his eyes never leaving his opponent’s even as the other continues to smile at him encouragingly, like how he used to years before in the dead of nights when they sang until their hearts bled and their breaths mixed into one.

“Shake hands with your opponents,” the referee suddenly calls between them, eyeing each and every one of them, “We’re going to have a good game today, alright?”

There is a chorus of answers and shouts, Minseok opting to stay quiet as he shakes the unknown man’s hand across from him before needing Minho to turn him away to get into place. He continues to eye his longtime opponent, watching as he gets into his favorite position as striker and he gets into his own position as midfielder. He sees eyes full of stars light up when the whistle blows, watching his opponent’s demeanor change instantaneously before he suddenly disappears from sight.

Minseok feels like he hasn’t blinked at all since he stepped out onto the field and when he does, he has to look up because there’s a vision of blue in his face that wasn’t there seconds ago and he’s glad he threatened SM if EXO was banned from coming to this charity event today.

“Hi, baozi,” his opponent suddenly greets. His voice is still so soft, affectionate.

Minseok feels a hard pat on the back and he watches as his opponent smiles to the person running behind him. “Stop flirting with the enemy,” Minho calls back with a laugh, and it slowly brings a smile to his face.

“I’m going to beat you again, baozi,” he proudly declares.

Minseok laughs incredulously, finally snapping out of the daze his memories forced him to enter. “I’ve been playing continuously for the past five years, Lu. Surely, I’m going to beat you this time.”

Suddenly, shouts roar to life in their ears once again as their teammates and referees yell at them to get into the game. They share a look before they laugh, reaching out to hold hands briefly before they both locate the ball and sprint for it.

Minseok helps get the first goal.

Lu Han wins the game.
