Blind Faith - 2:40

The message in this song is three fold. I think it's important for people to have some kind of faith in something; God, Allah, the Moon, the number seven, whatever. I think it's good to be able to hope for some otherworldly force to help guide you through your day, your week, good times, or help you out in tough times. If you look at the number of people that suffer from some addiction or life of crime and then break the cycle by "Finding God" or something of the like, I think it's hard to argue against. Now, is there a magical kingdom in the sky that we all go to if we're good and act kindly towards others - I don't know, that's not for me to say. I'm not saying there is, but I'm certainly not saying there's not. It seems illogical that there is, I mean, we've flown planes up there and I don't think anyone has passed a cloud of people pumping their arms trying to get the plane to honk it's horn (do planes even have horns?) Modern science would tell us that, no, that is not possible and, if it were there, there's no way we wouldn't be able to see it.

But anyone who has ever seen Bee Movie (the CGI movie staring Jerry Seinfeld) knows that there are things in this world that we can't explain. At the beginning of the movie there's a little disclaimer of sorts that says something along the lines of, "According to all laws of physics and aviation, there is no way that a bee's tiny little wings can carry it's big fat body. Of course, the bee doesn't care what humans think and so the bee flies anyway." You may have also heard the phrase, "There are "known knowns" - the things we know we know. There are also "known unknowns" - the things we know we don't know. And then there are "unknown unknowns" - the things we don't know we don't know." I believe that "there is an exception to every rule" except for that rule. It is possible that there exists some kind of Heaven and Hell and we have no idea. Maybe there really is a giant river to the underworld guarded by a giant three-headed dog. Who knows. That's not for us to say. Sorry, I got off on a little bit of a tangent there. Back to the song.

Faith - I think it's important for people to be able to look to something otherworldly to help them out. I also think that it's important, maybe more important, to draw the line of that belief somewhere. Blind faith is a dangerous thing, just as dangerous as complete faith. And complete blind faith is almost certainly never a good thing. A lot of the problems in the world today, including almost every major war, was started by some kind of extremist view on some kind of faith. Blind faith in a messiah is just as evil as blind faith in a leader. Educate yourself, know what's going on in the world. Stop the fighting.

Here's a ska song from four years ago. It's called Blind Faith, goes like this:

The president told me so
When he called me on the phone
Said I'm having trouble here
Buckle up it's going to be
Another troubled year
Pleasantly

Reach for the sky
You infidels
Don't ever question why
You're all gonna die
In prison cells
I'll lead to your demise

The messiah asked me why
When she came to me last night
She said don't look so surprised
It's your word against mine
And I couldn't feel more obliged
Dressed in white

Reach for the sky
You infidels
Don't ever question why
You're all gonna die
In prison cells
I'll lead to your demise
Jump on and ride
The carousel
Don't ever question why
You're all gonna die
You infidels
I'll lead to your demise

religion, corruption, faith, lyrics
