I finished the wiring on the motorbike on last night. I was mostly done on Saturday and had the bike running, the headlights, the turn signal switch, the horn, the starter button, etc all worked. I had some problems with the turn signals not flashing and the turn signal indicator only turning on in one direction (the old indicator was an incandescent bulb, the new one was a LED). I fixed all of those problems with an aftermarket turn signal flasher unit, some deep studying of the wiring diagram and a couple of properly rated diodes. Tonight I rebuilt the front brake and after a non starter and maybe trashing a pair of brake pads by coating them in oil (d’oh) I finally took the bike for it’s maiden voyage around the block. Discovered a missing carb float pan drain tube and fixed it.
I re-bought my motorcycle insurance (married and old = $99 a year, hell yeah) and am going to get that shit registered first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll get pictures up on Monday.

Dear readers, you remember back in the glory days of live journal before it was a decaying slum infested with jaded old men who won’t change their user name despite not being straight edge for going on 7 years and young girls who are militantly pro-ana, that I used to have a very similar motorcycle with a similar set of problems (not running, broken brakes, etc) and I used the magic of physics to unseize a brake caliper. I had a diagram which I can no longer find. You might be happy to know that the lessons learned from that exercise so many years ago has been used once more as I followed the exact same trick to get my stuck brake calipers unstuck this weekend.
