Softball Week 1 Recap

Apr 08, 2009 10:04

Team AL rolled up to the field and began mental and physical preparations for the upcoming contest at 6:30 PM.   As game time drew closer news came down from the mount, “reschedule! game is at 9!”  Groans and protestations about the current state of the climate (a balmy 40 and dropping) as well as the delay itself were quickly assuaged by the swift application of a complimentary milk jug full of beer.  Comradery and esprit de corps were cemented over the next couple of hours and many libations.

Finally, as the killing time drew near, Team AL resumed mental and physical preparations for combat.  Arms were warmed, hamstrings strung, and grim determinations settled.

The first inning commenced with our heroes failing to put any points on the board from the visitors batting turn and holding the bats of the other team silent.  This would not hold however.  As the game commenced with cold related errors abounding on both sides of the ball for both teams the AL’s bat’s never warmed up.  The other team pulled steadily ahead until the 4th inning where the seed of a rally was planted, nurtured and grown to just short of maturity before being blasted with a concentrated stream of Roundup and ground back into the dirt by the heel of the other team.  Game ends at the top of the 4th, with 20 minutes left on the clock.  Other Guys 16, AL 6.  10-run rule. End of Game.

Despite the long wait to play and the sting of defeat, post game spirits were high in the dug out. The sentiment: “Good warm-up game. Thanks for coming to spring training.”
