Dear Excel,
I own you. I don't care if there was an easier way to keep a running tally of the money I've received for the the company softball team t-shirts. I wrote that function. It takes that range. If I mark the paid column as paid, you update your received cell. That's the way it is. It may not be robust, but you are going to do it and like it. That's right.
