5 nights of rioting in Paris

Nov 01, 2005 07:58

I typed this up once and it was better, here it goes again:

There have been riots for five nights running in poor immigrant suburb of Paris. Police and their cars are being wrecked. The riots were sparked when two immigrant youths were electrocuted while fleeing the police. This is being tied back to the French Interior Ministers get tough on crime neighborhood crackdown policy. The suburb in question is by all accounts the equivalent of Cabrini Greene.

Interesting Things of Note:
1. CNN has run this front "page" two days in a row, the article is pretty much the same both days, but it's front page.
2. The CNN article doesn't demonize the protesters. In fact it talks about how poor the area is, how disadvantaged everyone is and how they are being persecuted by the Minister's policies. The riots are being seen as a direct reaction to this guy and his ideas.
3. The CNN article actually quotes people who talk about fixing the problems in these areas (education, nutrition, opportunity) as opposed to trying to stop gap the symptoms (high crime).

Summary:
I love France, but CNN really confuses me.

P.S. It is also interesting to note that no word of this has been mentioned on Infoshop yet, while there have been countless analysis of the Scoots Libby and Karl Rove and the *god voice* Valerie Plame Case */god voice*. It seems as if the spectacle has duped the masses of anarchists yet AGAIN. That shit is a distraction from real problems, time and time again the fact that no court can mete out justice or freedom has been established, no matter how many stooges get specially investigated by a special counsel. This is old gripe but it's also amazing to me that "ANARCHIST PRISONERS" who "NEED OUR HELP!" make it on to Infoshop so much by some dumb kid who wants a cause to fight in with out actually looking into why said "ANARCHIST PRISONER" is in prison. One instance that comes to mind is the championing of a convicted, admitted rapist and pedophile. Nice one guys! (and I don't think "guys" is inappropriate or un-pc here because well, you know, man-archy and shit.)

P.P.S. Shawn set his head on fire spinning fire this weekend. I have made a MSPAINT masterpiece portraying this series of events that shall be photobucketed and posted tonight.
