For those of you who DONT know...

A friend of mine today argued on the parents side of the schiavo case. It was dumb and annoying.

Seriously, look at the facts here.

1. Terry schiavo had been forced to live as a vegetable for 15 years and there was no chance of her returning to normalty. Being forced to live CAN be a bad thing. Terry made it clear that she wouldnt want to live as a vegetable. This IS NOT UNCOMMON. I work at a hospital. My sister, mother and father also work at hospitals. This past week two people passed away that i was caring for because they had advanced directives stating that they wouldnt want to live via support of the tube if there was no hope. People dont want to live only for the purpose of others being able to see them. Its not a big deal. Id guess atleast 500 people passed away TODAY from not wanting to stay on the tube, meanwhile GW played golf in Waco. Its the persons decision, not yours. Ill also go ahead and note that out of i believe 21 nurses on my floor (oncology), TWENTY ONE of them think its cruel and horrible that the parents forced her through that.

2. If you read about Terry at all the one thing she hated was attention. This is kind of like the episode of saved by the bell where slater and zack were going to wrestle over the frog. The one who let the frog go bc they didnt want to hurt them was the one who really cared. Seriously, let the lady go out with a bit of dignity.

3. As pointed out by Bill Maher, why is it that the people who are the most religious are the ones who are afraid to pass away? Are they fighting against meeting God? Mr. Delay wouldnt God have saved her if she was meant to live? Isnt she going to a better place anyways?

4. If you didnt notice, Terry had her heart attack and fell partly bc of her problems with bulemia. She herself was refusing to eat. Now were going to go against her wishes again and force a tube down her throat to keep her alive so that she can sit still and move her eyes?

5. I cant repeat it enough. This happens every day. Frequently throughout every day. Why dont you people go to a hospital and just start protesting, i guarantee you that you will find a person at that hospital (assuming its a metropolitan area) who will die that day because their code blue status is a level 2b or a level 3.

6. Michael Schiavo was not driven by money. The man was offered 10 million dollars (rumored at 20 million later on) to let them put the life support back on Terry, he declined. Obviously he was doing his best to carry out his wishes. Throngs of idiots lined his lawn to protest. To protest WHAT? That they think they should be able to dictate whether or not someone has to be strung along to live when they would rather not? He had to jump the fence in his back yard and sneak through a field of yards to get in a police car just to leave his own neighborhood. These are the same people that cheered outside of Terry's hospice (OMG a hospice, you mean people go to places with the sole purpose of passing away and they even have a name for them?!?!) when she peed.

7. Terry couldnt feel pain. Her body wasnt hurting her as she wasnt being fed. She slipped away without pain. Her brain couldnt send or respond to the pain. It wouldve been a peaceful death were it not for her parents. Besides, W, wasnt it God's plan?

If any of you could help me see a different perspective, PLEASE share it.
