Busy, busy week

Yesterday reminded me why I work at the Jewish Federation...the Mayor's Holocaust Remembrance event was held in the afternoon and it was spectacular, the best one yet. Since I have a new position, I was much more involved than I had been in previous years. I transported Abe Weinrib (some of you may recall him from last year) and another survivor, Lydia Steindler. The program was meaningful and informative. Kids from all over Columbus attended and children from the day schools sang some songs in Yiddish and in English as the survivors were lighting the candles. Lydia, who was sitting next to me, sang along with the children and I couldn't help but cry.
It's so awesome to see young people appreciate the lessons of the Shoah. I never heard anyone misbehave and they were listening intently to everything that was going on. It's vital they know how to respect each other and how to appreciate difference. Since kids are so crappy to each other anyway, it's important that they learn to like each other despite skin differences, weight differences and wealth disparities.
As we were walking out, I heard so many people complimenting the program and wiping their eyes because they were so touched. Things went so smoothly that my boss said I was done for the day, so I didn't have to work an event last night. I am very, very proud to be affiliated with an organization that is committed to funding programs of such importance.

Amanda and I are going tonight to hear a speaker at Hillel. The speaker is the man from Hotel Rwanda. I am so excited to meet someone like him!

I may not make a lot of money but I work for something more important. I will never be envious of the people that live in the corporate world, EVER. If I have to drive my shitty Taurus for the rest of my life, I will sleep well at night knowing the my choices were worth it.
