So Wilkes-Barre made national news this week because of some serious flooding. Thankfully it turned out to be not as serious as they thought, but they evacuated people just in case.
We live really, really, really close to the Susquehanna River, or the main cause of all the floods. We're really high up though, so if our house got flooded, it'd probably be a national state of emergency or something. Gram and Pop lost everything they had in the big flood after hurricane Agnes in 1972 (when, ironically enough, they lived about 6 times further away from the river than they do now), so they purposely bought a home out of the flood zone so it woudln't happen again.
Uncle Marc was evacuated, but everything was fine for him because he's a on a second-floor apartment. He brought his prized guitars with him in case of looters and they're SO NICE. One is an anniversary edition Fender Strat, an instant collectable. His most prized is a custom-made Gibson something-or-other, and I learned that custom guitars have custom cases that have a flap covering the guitar, so like you open the case and there's a flap of fabric covering the guitar still. He said if he ever lost that guitar, it'd be like losing a part of his body.
They showed a great deal of white trash people on the news, apparently. Some guy saying he'd never evacuate because he has to take care of his cat...uhh, take it with you? There was a young couple that just moved here, and got out of their home even before the evac took place because of all the stories from their neighbors. It was refreshing to know that not everyone is a complete and total fucking moron.

Subway delivers to the VA (a veteran's hospital) now. Joe (owner) just decided this all of a sudden I guess. Michelle asked him about reimbursing for gas, and he said he's "not worried about it because it's right up the road". I'd say it's about a mile away, but that still adds up. I asked him if, God forbid one of us got into an accident, what would happen? We use our own vehicles, there's no company car or anything. He said he'd get back to me on that.
I don't think anyone should have to do this until he has all the stipulations figured out. I mean, he didn't even think of what would happen if there ever was an accident. WTF? My father told me I'm not to make any deliveries--at least until Joe figures his shit out--because he's not reimbursing and he doesn't want me driving the cars all over the place for that.
The nezt day or something, Linda (manager) told me that she thought my question to Joe about possible accidents was "foolish". 1) Only managers would make deliveries so I wouldn't go anyway, and 2) It's a 30-second drive. [It's not, but whatever.] It's like, re: 1) Joe never once said that only managers would make the deliveries; he said who(m)ever was available at the time would do it. re: 2) You can get into an accident driving down your own street. It happens. Sure, it's a slim chance, but the chance is there and it can't, and shouldn't, be ignored.
So yeah, that's really dumb. Jimmy (Kiki's, not mine) said that if someone were to get into an accident, Joe's business insurance would HAVE to cover any and all damages. So why wouldn't Joe say that? My dad said workman's compensation would take care of it if something like that were to happen. I hasve no idea who's right. My aunt told me that her....sister, or aunt or cousin or something was driving somewhere in her car for work, and got into a really bad accident. I guess her car was totaled and she had medical bills and stuff. Turns out, this was like 6 years ago and they're STILL fighting her work's insurance.
I don't have the money to pay an insurance increase if I get into an accident while making a delivery. Even if I did, though, I shouldn't have to.
I don't know what the laws are on stuff like this, and I don't even know where to look. Daddy doesn't know because police don't study business/work laws like that. I don't even know if Subway as a corporation allows deliveries to be made.
I had to use my car once at Camp Louise to take a trip to the doctors. I had strep throat, Mona had carpal tunnel/a sprained wrist, and Tenderfoot had a torn something in her knee I think. I used my car to drive us, and the camp reimbursed me for mileage and stuff. Is that just good business practice, or is there a law mandating reimbursement for gas/mileage on personal vehicles?
Anyone know anything about this stuff? It's such a messed up situation and it really isn't well thought out at all. I understand Subway isn't making much money and I understand we're trying to reach out to get more sales, but something like this should at least have a plan of action. Am I "foolish" for thinking that? No one else thinks so except Linda, lol.

Gordon and I were listening to James Blunt at work tonight. "Goodbye, My Lover" is my absolute favorite song on Back to Bedlam. It always makes me think of James, even though it's a breakup song.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your head.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.
^ That makes me think of our relationship from my point of view.
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
I cannot live without you.
^ That makes me think of our relationship from (what I think is kind of I guess) James's point of view.
I love anything that's so lyrically strong. =)
