Battlestar Galactica watch & IM!

Jan 07, 2006 23:04

I do not have cable, choosing instead to get all my TV via Netflix. This worked well--until I discovered Battlestar Galactica. Yes, I'm finally hooked on a show enough that I can't possibly wait for the DVDs--I need to know what happens NOW!!!

Thankfully, Scifi is putting the episodes on iTunes 24 hours after they air. YAY! I just finished watching the 11th episode of the second season (the season was a split season, so this is the first new ep after the most recent DVD release). The fun thing about watching a time-lagged downloaded version is that I could post my thoughts as I watched it. And so here is the chatlog.
mackillian (10:09:50 PM): tonight's BSG ep will be on iTunes tomorrow :-)
mackillian is idle at 10:21:19 PM.
mackillian (8:28:31 AM): you awake?
xnera23 (8:28:46 AM): yup
xnera23 (8:29:32 AM): http://www.ohlookabutterfly.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=277&st=0&#entry3360
xnera23 (8:29:38 AM): hahaha
mackillian (8:29:45 AM): it still isn't there?!
xnera23 (8:30:07 AM): i'm looking in the BSG section, and i don't see it
mackillian (8:30:40 AM): weird
mackillian (8:30:53 AM): they had a special itunes/BSG promo too
xnera23 (8:31:05 AM): *closes iTunes and reopens, just in case*
xnera23 (8:31:16 AM): I was really hoping they would stick it on iTunes, so I'm glad they did
xnera23 (8:31:46 AM): i actually wrote them an email earlier in the week asking if they were going to. they didn't reply. which meant I was biting my nails all week waiting for confirmation
mackillian (8:32:05 AM): aw
mackillian (8:32:14 AM): yeah, it's killing me that you haven't seen it yet
mackillian (8:32:14 AM): >_<
xnera23 (8:32:57 AM): i will watch it as soon as it is possible to do so
mackillian (8:34:08 AM): YEAY!
xnera23 (4:53:26 PM): there are a bunch pf posts on the scifi.com bboard asking "WHY ISN'T IT ON ITUNES YET?"
mackillian (4:55:03 PM): they SAID it would be
mackillian (4:55:04 PM): liars!
xnera23 (4:55:46 PM): i'm guessing technical glitch. someone suggested writing polite letters to feedback@scifi.com
mackillian (4:56:41 PM): LOL
xnera23 (4:57:49 PM): wonder if itunes has a feedback address? because the glitch might be on their end
xnera23 (4:58:40 PM): thing is, i know i could have gotten it via Bittorrent by now. but i want to PAY for it because (a) i can afford it, and (b) I believe in supporting artists whose work I admire
mackillian (4:59:01 PM): yeah
mackillian (5:09:26 PM): dammit, you need to see the new ep so you can weigh in on the season 2 discussion >_<
xnera23 (5:10:56 PM): yeah :-( maybe i'll grab it off BT and then pay for it on iTunes when it's available
mackillian (5:11:17 PM): *sigh*
mackillian (5:11:22 PM): I also miss watching it off the DVD
mackillian (5:11:28 PM): the video quality is SO much better o_O
xnera23 (5:11:48 PM): Yeah. It's going to be WEIRD to watch it on the computer, instead of on DVD
mackillian (5:14:39 PM): very
mackillian (5:14:43 PM): actually, it's not bad
xnera23 (6:10:40 PM): *checks iTunes for the 235134125216 time today*
mackillian (6:11:03 PM): *nod* I understand
xnera23 (6:11:04 PM): *sighs*
mackillian (6:11:08 PM): :-(
xnera23 (8:09:48 PM): *checks iTunes for the 132453161312415 time* I'm actually wondering if they're waiting a full 24 hours to post it. that'd be in an hour
mackillian (8:10:55 PM): >_<
xnera23 (9:05:15 PM): HA! I was right! Scifi was waiting for a full 24 hours. It's there now! :-)
xnera23 (9:06:50 PM): i'm actually gonna rewatch Pegasus right now. so, we should be able to talk about Resurrection Part I in an hour and a half
xnera23 (9:07:02 PM): ttyl!
xnera23 (9:12:20 PM): actually, i take that back. i watched the "Previously" for Pegasus and it was enough to jar my memory as to what happened (i couldn't remember if Caine was in one ep or several) so I'm going right to Resurrection as soon as it downloads
mackillian (9:32:59 PM): back
xnera23 (9:33:25 PM): cool! am watching now! I can comment at you as I watch!!! *SQUEES*
mackillian (9:35:40 PM): YEAY!
xnera23 (9:40:53 PM): am six minutes in. this is soooooooo madness. i mean, WHY ARE YOU BATTLING EACH OTHER?! FIGHT THE CYLONS!!
xnera23 (9:40:57 PM): hate Pegasus. Hate hate hate
mackillian (9:41:02 PM): (*snort*)
xnera23 (9:41:09 PM): Starbuck soooooo pretty. sooooooo pretty.
mackillian (9:41:10 PM): tell me when starbuck shows up
xnera23 (9:41:21 PM): She made her pass on the ship
xnera23 (9:41:31 PM): And apollo has been relieved of duty. >:o!!!!
xnera23 (9:42:10 PM): hey, did you know the actor who plays Hotdog is Edward James Olmos' son?
xnera23 (9:43:00 PM): fuck i need to get new speakers or something. i have to hunch over to listen on headphones (cord is not long enough)
xnera23 (9:43:04 PM): okay back to watching
mackillian (9:43:18 PM): *snort*
mackillian (9:43:27 PM): (I had no idea that hot dog was EJO's son)
mackillian (9:43:49 PM): (you know that part where starbuck typed "What the hell is going on?!" to apollo? right before that, I said to nathan, "She'll say 'what the hell is going on?!")
xnera23 (9:44:00 PM): hahaha! I just got to that
xnera23 (9:44:15 PM): starbuck/apollo FOREVER!!!!!
xnera23 (9:45:54 PM): "we're all friendly! so let's just...be friendly!" HAHAHA. THAT'S WHAT I JUST SAID!!!
xnera23 (9:46:13 PM): looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove starbuck. Of course you knew that already
mackillian (9:48:02 PM): hahahahahaha
mackillian (9:48:09 PM): that made me CRACK UP
xnera23 (9:49:14 PM): OMG. Caine sounds IMPRESSED with Starbuck. Maybe that will knock some sense into Cain!
xnera23 (9:49:38 PM): and frak my spelling. have no clue how her name is supposed to be spelled. you know who i mean
mackillian (9:50:12 PM): ROFL
mackillian (9:50:14 PM): caine.
xnera23 (9:51:49 PM): what the heck did Caine say right before the theme kicked in? I'm assuming it was maybe a swear or something... when we see the closeup of six
mackillian (9:52:13 PM): "there she is"
mackillian (9:52:20 PM): or "found here"
mackillian (9:52:23 PM): I don't remember the exact words
xnera23 (9:52:32 PM): okay, cool.
xnera23 (9:53:05 PM): 49,604. IMDB says it's updated everyweek
mackillian (9:53:30 PM): sweet
xnera23 (9:54:18 PM): i'm really glad they're doing the second half of the theme again, with the blips of the current ep. i really missed that in the first few eps of season two
xnera23 (9:56:38 PM): caine just said "We're at war". And I said "no you're not!" Because I just read the script for the miniseries over the last two days... it's like the disagreement between Roslin and Adama during the mini all over again
xnera23 (9:57:28 PM): the fleet's goal right now is to SURVIVE. Sometimes that means fighting the Cylons. But fighting the Cylons isn't their main purpose
mackillian (9:57:38 PM): yup
mackillian (9:57:39 PM): exactly
xnera23 (9:59:29 PM): Roslin rules! i love her
xnera23 (9:59:35 PM): Did you read the mini script?
mackillian (10:00:36 PM): yes I did :-)
xnera23 (10:01:08 PM): i thought it was interesting, that part where we learn Billy won an award for writing a paper on diplomacy
xnera23 (10:01:29 PM): and how he tells her she has to act like the President all the time, and only raise her voice for effect
mackillian (10:02:47 PM): *nod*
xnera23 (10:02:50 PM): HSQ! STARBUCK PEGASUS CAG?!?!
mackillian (10:03:51 PM): HAHAHAHA
xnera23 (10:03:58 PM): "i want him on my team, sir" <3!
xnera23 (10:05:31 PM): eek. eek eek eek
xnera23 (10:06:16 PM): *bites nails* Starbuck and Caine and getting along a little TOO well for my comfort
mackillian (10:06:33 PM): don't worry.
mackillian (10:06:36 PM): well, no.
mackillian (10:06:37 PM): worry.
xnera23 (10:07:18 PM): OMG HSQ I LITERALLY JUST SCREAMED OMG ROSLIN "you've got to kill her" OMG!
xnera23 (10:07:32 PM): (this is so being posted to my LiveJournal afterwards)
mackillian (10:09:24 PM): ROFL
xnera23 (10:16:18 PM): i do have a complaint about the show: they've made Gaius into the "general science officer". I know he's a genius, but his field is supposed to be computing. Yet in the series we've seen him be a microbiologist, and now he's a psychiatrist? ooooookay
mackillian (10:17:38 PM): well, he IS a whack job.
xnera23 (10:18:12 PM): hahaha. and therefore perfect for the job as psychiatrist. because all shrinks are crazy *laughs*
mackillian (10:18:43 PM): of course!
xnera23 (10:19:39 PM): still suspcious of the chief from the pegasus. i think he was the favorite to be labeled as cylon by fans, wasn't he?
xnera23 (10:23:02 PM): I HATE CAINE.
mackillian (10:24:08 PM): yes.
mackillian (10:24:09 PM): why now?
xnera23 (10:24:29 PM): the story about the civilian ships, and how they murdered families
xnera23 (10:24:40 PM): now i am on the starbuck/apollo scene
mackillian (10:31:36 PM): oh, I know. Ugh.
xnera23 (10:39:58 PM): okay, all done.
xnera23 (10:40:10 PM): gonna be a really close one...
mackillian (10:40:17 PM): I KNOW
mackillian (10:40:18 PM): >_<
xnera23 (10:41:48 PM): the pegasus folks will probably follow orders. I am less sure about Kara. She is unconventional enough that she might do it, but it's one thing to kill an enemy that's a machine, and another to kill a human...and face to face
mackillian (10:43:29 PM): I don't think the other XO will do it
mackillian (10:43:33 PM): he'll be out of caine's grasp
xnera23 (10:46:59 PM): hmm, yeah. He does seem to be leaning towards the "she's a pyscho bitch!" camp
mackillian (10:48:05 PM): a LOT.
mackillian (10:48:11 PM): he only follows her out of fear
xnera23 (10:48:16 PM): yeah
xnera23 (10:48:52 PM): I was thinking about the Cylons the other day. the downloading, and Sharon, and how it all fits together
mackillian (10:49:30 PM): *nod*
xnera23 (10:49:31 PM): Metaphor time!
mackillian (10:49:34 PM): LOL
xnera23 (10:51:01 PM): The Cylons are computers. Each Cylon model is a database. And the databases are replicated to all the copies of each model. I'm uncertain if they're synchronous or asynchronous... leaning towards asynchronous, since they make a big deal of the whole "downloading" thing when they die
mackillian (10:51:47 PM): o_O
xnera23 (10:52:01 PM): Also, the cylons are on a wireless network together. But it has limited range, so if they're too far away or if there is interference like the storm at Ragnar station, they can't replicate their databases
xnera23 (10:52:22 PM): Hence, the Resurrection ship... it's like having offsite storage of your databases in case something goes wrong
xnera23 (10:52:27 PM): (I am SO a geek)
xnera23 (10:52:43 PM): I wasn't too surprised by the resurrection ship. Made perfect sense to me
xnera23 (10:54:30 PM): If Galactica/Pegasus (eww, ship slash!) destroy the Resurrection ship, it's effectively like the Cylons would be working from an old backup. They'd lose all the incremental changes that have been made since Galactica left the twelve colonies. The Cylons would "forget" what had happened out in space. Or so goes my thoughts
mackillian (10:55:18 PM): sweeeet
xnera23 (10:57:27 PM): I'm not sure where Helo's!Sharon fits in, though. At first I thought maybe she had been disconnected from the network and was just like a server acting on her own, but she has Tyrol's!Sharon's memories, so... hmm. Maybe she is replicating one-way. Downloading changes that have been made, but not uploading them...no, that's still a problem, because Six knows about the baby. But then I'm still not sure how Six fits in all this, either
xnera23 (10:57:53 PM): it's complicated.... but I do like the Cylons-as-networked-databases theory
mackillian (10:57:58 PM): yeah o_O

geekery, bsg, friends
