It gets better (previously known as teenage dreams) chapter 6

Chapter 6
Sophie sat in the hospital waiting room. The hospital staff had wanted to check her over but she insisted that she was fine; she wanted all of their attention on making sure Sian was ok. Sian had been there for about half an hour but nobody had told Sophie anything yet apart from that she was still unconscious and in a bad way and that they might have to operate. So she had to sit there and wait, thoughts swirling around her head. “What if she’s not ok, what if she’s really hurt, what if she dies”. For a split second before, when Sian arrived and stood up for her she thought things might be ok. She loved Sian and Sian actually loved her back. But after all that what if she dies. It was just too painful to think about.
Not long later Sian’s dad Vinnie turned up. Sophie thought she’d better explain to him what had happened, he was probably really worried. “Um hi, I’m Sophie I was um with Sian when it happened”
“Oh right, honestly trust her, I was looking forward to the match tonight” Vinnie sighed
“Don’t you want to know how she is?” Sophie asked confused at his lack of concern
“Well I suppose, I might as well as I’m here, where is she?”
“I don’t think you can see her, she’s still unconscious and they might have to operate”
“Oh great so I’m missing the game and beer night for nothing, honestly and I can’t even see her” He moaned
“I can’t believe you, your daughter could be dieing and you don’t even care” Sophie cried
“Whatever, I’m going home” Vinnie said and stormed out of the hospital
Sophie sat down shocked and realised how little she really knew Sian. She didn’t get why people like Vinnie even had kids, but she was glad he did. She had lived without Sian for 13 years yet she couldn’t imagine life without her.
“Excuse me are you with Sian Powers?” A nurse asked Sophie
“Yes, is she ok” Sophie asked worried
“Well I reckon that she’s been better but she’ll be ok” The nurse smiled, “Has any family members turned up yet?”
“Her dad was just here but he left”
“Oh, ok” The nurse said confused, “Well hopefully your parents will be here soon, are you sure you don’t want to be checked over” She said looking at the cut on Sophie’s forehead.
“No, I’m ok. When can I see Sian?”
“Well it looks like she might be coming around soon so you can go in there if you want”
“Really?” Sophie asked
“Of corse, she’s just through here” The nurse said and took Sophie round to where Sian was.
Sophie went and stood next to Sian and softly took her hand. She realised how small Sian looked in that hospital bed all wired up to various machines in the room. A tear floated down Sophie’s cheek, she hated seeing the one she loved like this. She felt Sian’s hand twitch slightly and looked up to see Sian’s eyelids fluttering. Sophie quickly dropped Sian’s hand and stepped back.
“No don’t” Sian whispered and weakly smiled at Sophie, “I liked that, it felt right”
Sophie beamed at Sian and slowly entwined her fingers back into Sian’s.
“Are you ok” Sian asked her
“Yer I’m fine, it’s me who should be asking that not you”
“I’ve never been better.” said Sian giggling and slowly sat up and embraced Sophie
The nurse smiled to herself and left them to have their moment.
