She had a pretty traumatic introduction to life on the TARDIS, yup. I think she would have found Four baffling, and I believe he could have handled her better than Five. He would have kept coming at her from unexpected directions and he projected more authority. His apparent age would have been an advantage too. Someone should write a fic!
Well, I read the reason she was "written out" of Kinda was because Sutton was only contracted to do X-amount of episodes. That and I bet that script had already been written without her in mind, etc. But it definitely feels like Nyssa is redundant. She's smart, like Adric, but doesn't have any of the dynamics that Adric does to keep her interesting. I do LIKE her, but she's very wallflower and that doesn't really work

(Hey, we all have opinions! And no one's getting burned for stating hers! :D)
Baker's commanding but eccentric alien didn't seem to have the endless energy and potential testosterone level that the sporting Five offered.
I don't see Five as particularly testosterone-filled. He was rather even-keeled as past personalities went. Three and Four seemed far more sexual without even trying, and they were both much older in appearance. Because if I compare Three to Five, I find Three to be more provocative. Same with Four to Five. Five's boyish appearance and child-like reactions undercut his potential sensuality (being a younger actor in the role).
Five was always nervious around her, not sure of himself, not sure of what to do or were to touch, while he would quite happily and innocently hug Nyssa and Peri. While I do 'ship Tegan and Five, I never took his open affection for Nyssa (and I don't recall him being particularly touchy-feely with Peri) and nervousness around Tegan as a sign he was "in love" with her. As someone who doesn't 'ship Tegan with the Doctor, and who doesn't particularlly even like Tegan much, I'm sort of offended by your assessment that just because she wouldn't have some sort of sexual chemistry with the Doctor (or that Four couldn't have pulled it off, HA! HAHA, I SAY! HAVE YOU SEEN ANY FOUR?) that she would have lost her spark or fire or tension or whatever. Personally, I've never, ever noticed "Chemsitry" between Tegan and the Fifth Doctor. At best, he seems constantly annoyed with her, and later grows to respect her as a friend. I realize this does not hold true for most fans of this community, as it's a largely Five/Tegan base, but I'm just saying--it's largely "you see what you want to see." I see Tegan coming out in a sexy dress in "Englightenment" and Five completely ignoring her transformation. You probably figure that scene in some 'shippy way, and that's fine.
But to think that Four/Tegan wouldn't have have chemsitry is appalling to me. Have you seen Logopolis? I think Four could have muzzled her better
