FEEDBACK!!!

As long as I can remember it has been drilled into my head that
America is the best country in the world. And it is.
We have one of the largest economies in the world, and our workers
are among its best educated. American markets are the driving force in
world economics. Our military is involved in dozens of peacekeeping
missions across the globe.
America is the land of opportunity. Anyone can become anything,
regardless of race or sex. We have freedom of religion and a
separation of church and state. In a world torn by religious and
ethnic violence our country is almost completely free of internal
violence.

Among our many other strengths we have a democratic tradition that
has never been threatened. It is taken for granted that our military
is the most powerful the world has ever seen, but unlike in so many
other countries our armed forces have never involved themselves with
domestic politics.
It would be un-American for them to do so.
In every corner of the globe there are a few American workers,
businessmen, missionaries and soldiers actively trying to improve
the lives of others. Few other nations can say that. I really think
that we are the best country in the world, but lets not sit back on
our laurels.
Everywhere I look there are people waving flags, but in the mad
scramble to get ahead in life have we lost touch with what is really
important? Our great country was not founded on blind loyalty and mob
mentality, but rather by many people working together to make the
world a little bit better.
If we are the best country in the world how come one in five
American children are born into poverty? Why is 14% of America
without health insurance? (prb.org)
When in industrialized countries around the world the gap between
rich and poor is shrinking how come in ours the rich are getting
richer, the poor are getting poorer and the squeezed middle class is
finding it increasingly difficult to get by?
Why does our environmental policy have more in common with Communist
China than that of the European Union?
How come the greatest country in the world is launching wars of aggression?
Closer to home, more than 8000 people will sleep on the streets of Seattle
tonight, and it the seattle coalition for the homeless estimates that nearly half of them have gainful
employment. If we live in the greatest country in the world, how come
we are more concerned with spending money on bombs, televisions, and
cell phones than on helping our fellow Americans find a way in the
world?
In this election year it is important to remember how far we have
come, but rather than hiding behind the red, white and blue we
shouldn't forget the spirit of idealism and charity that made our
country what it is today.
We live in the land of opportunity, an unprecedented opportunity to
make a difference in the world as individuals, groups and as a nation.
America is the best country in the world. Let's start acting like it.
