Or maybe the Lunar New Year holiday is too uneventful for me... either way, here's another Arashi talk of complete randomness, with the guys going very much light in their heads due to over-excitement at the prospect of (1) being able to have fun cooking, and (2) a (free, I guess) sushi party. Psht... Arashi, when will you guys learn to act more like super stars with a mighty balance in your bank accounts?

(T/N: “Monthly 「Arashi」” is a parody of the magazine’s name “Monthly The Television”. It’s a corner which has a long history, dating back to 2001 or something… Hence in this article you’ll see, or read, them celebrating Monthly 「Arashi」’s 10th anniversary. Be careful not to mix this up with the 10th anniversary of Arashi themselves!)

Original recipes for futomaki & the opening of a sushi party!!
The 10th year anniversary of the series is opened with a sushi party! Challenging both the making of temakizushi & original futomaki!! They come with recipes which you can never imitate ♪
(T/N: temakizushi (temaki for short) and futomaki are 2 types of sushi. Temaki is shaped like a cone with a piece of nori (seaweed) on the outside. Futomaki is shaped like a large cylinder, also with nori on the outside. These 2 are variations of the type of sushi called makizushi, or makimono (maki for short), literally meaning “rolled sushi”, you can imagine that, right? If not, here's an illustration LOL:

Jun: Today’s still not into the new year, yet Arashi are already getting into a celebratory mood, just like usual, it’s that kind of feeling (laugh). Up until now we’ve done nabe, curry, sukiyaki. We’ve done that many things, but there’s still some thing that shouldn’t be forgotten.
Shou: What? What??
Jun: Talking about parties, it’s sushi, right? (why did he talk in the Kansai dialect?) (T/N: it’s true that Jun suddenly switched to the Kansai dialect, but I don’t know how to reflect that in the translation T___T The “right?” part from his question should have been “jan?” but he used “yan?” instead)
Shou: True, true (is this a comedy act!?) (T/N: Shou answered Jun in the same Kansai dialect, instead of the usual “sou sou”, he said “seya seya”. Arashi getting excited and getting crazy is making life harder for translators, tsk…)
Ohno: … true (so slow!) (T/N: as in, Riida’s too slow in making a comeback to Jun’s joke LOL And, yes, Riida also said "seya")
Jun: Among our group, there are a lot of occasions when we have a gathering and make temaki, right?
Nino: It’s a simple and fun routine, right?
Aiba: What’s more, it has a wonderful feeling, right?
But Monthly 「Arashi」 is a challenge series, so before enjoying the entertainment, you have also challenged yourselves to the making of “original futomaki”. At first we thought that at least one person would make some tragically messy futomaki, but, as expected from Arashi, everyone has finished this beautifully.
Nino: Then, as for the arrangement …
Aiba: With these sausages…
Nino: Bear-san, complete. (T/N: the picture of this bear-san is at the end of the translation :D)

Shou: This looks cute, but very grumpy (laugh).
Ohno: Quite a powerful look~
Shou: As for the series, we were quite determined with the challenge for this 1st issue of 2010.
You were determined to come up with originality for each of the futomaki?
Nino: The style of the Ninomiya futomaki is~ that the ingredients include grilled meat, I guess. Yakiniku, kimchi, vegetables~ And then, rice!! (T/N: yakiniku = Japanese grilled meat) (for some reason he talked in a mocking foreign accent) (T/N: the ingredients Nino named in this sentence were written in katakana instead of the usual kanji/hiragana, so I guess Nino was speaking in broken, foreign-accent-like Japanese LOL Did I mention that when Arashi go crazy from the excitement, they make life harder for me?)
Ohno: Were you able to make it taste good?
Nino: It was delicious~
Shou: Meat, vegetables, rice, what a golden combination.
Aiba: As for Aiba futomaki, there’s no style.
Everyone: burst out laughing
Nino: It’s Aiba futomaki because there’s no style.
Aiba: Yes, yes. I put a lot of things in~ Egg, canned tuna, for the main ingredient, I used eel!
Nino: You did well to manage to roll up that many ingredients.
Jun: He rolled them up quite beautifully.
Aiba: What about the Matsumoto maki?
Jun: Hm, let’s see, crab, shrimp, and salted salmon roe, I simply followed the rule of right.
Shou: It’s a pure Japanese style.
Jun: Yeah. I guess the main point of it is the pickled ginger. When I go to sushi restaurants, I really enjoy it whenever in the last makimono dish I order, pickled ginger is rolled up with sliced fish~

Now then, regarding the first challenge of 2010, we’d like you to take on another challenge, “using shiritori to connects the words that express your enthusiasm for 2010”
(T/N: shiritori is a Japanese word game. The rule is simple, the players are required to come up with a word which begin with the final syllable from the previously said word. For more information, you can read
wikipedia, or watch the making of My girl PV, Arashi played shiritori in that!
Also, from this point onward the translation is going to be rather confusing, because I have to, first, romanize the sentences Arashi said (so that you can see the essence of the shiritori game), and then translate it into English… If you don’t have enough patience for confusing stuffs then it’s better to skip this part altogether)
Shou: I see!
Because this year is the year of the tiger, let’s start from the “ra” of “tora” (tiger)!
Jun: All right. Ra, ra, ra…, “ra” is quite difficult. Who’s going to go first?
Nino: Okay, let’s start from me.

Nino: Ra, ra, ra… rainen mo! (next year too)
Shou: Nice~…, eh? Next year!? (T/N: the setting of this conversation is in 2010, so with "next year", Nino is referring to 2011)
Nino: Very soon we’re going to enter 2011, please keep on going (laugh). Next, Aiba san, if you please.
Aiba: Motto, motto, motto (more, more, more) (laugh).
Jun: I’ll go next. More, more…, tobashite ikitai wake desu ga (we want to keep soaring high, but)
Aiba: Ga, as in, but? (T/N: the word "ga" in Japanese has many different uses, so Aiba chan had to confirm it here)
Shou: Just go with that meaning (laugh). Ga, shikashi, mazu wa kotoshi o~? (but, however, first of all, this year~?)
Ohno: Otanoshimi kudasai. (please look forward to it)
Next up, about the 10 year vow of Monthly 「Arashi」. Let’s start from the “i” in Ohno san’s “otanoshimi kudasai”!
Ohno: Then, we’ll reverse the order and start from me? I, i, i…, ii kanji ni! (with a nice feeling)
Shou: Ni~ 2010 nen, sunawachi, Gekkan 「Arashi」 10 shuunen mo! (2010, that is also Monthly 「Arashi」’s 10th year)

Jun: Moriagacchau wake desu ga. (we want to get excited, but)

Nino: Earlier it was “motto motto motto”, if now you end up with “ga shikashi”, then that’d mean you haven’t done anything at all!! (laugh)

Aiba: I’d go with u-pa-ru-pa-! (axolotl) (T/N: in case you have no idea what an axolotl is, it’s
this animal) I want to keep one. The other choice is…
Shou: Starting with “ri”, rippa na o uchi haiken (aiming for a fine house).
Nino: Putting housing aside, how about trying to imagine what should come up after rippa na (a fine…)? (laugh)
Shou: That sounds fun~! Just like what they do on “Ousama no brunch”. (T/N: "Ousama no brunch" is a TV show)
Jun: Starting with “u”, so, uma ni noru (riding on a horse). (T/N: Japanese grammar differs a lot from English, so I’ll include the full sentence with “rippa na” here for your reference: “rippa na uma ni noru” = riding on a fine horse)
Shou: Ushi wo kuu (eating beef) (full sentence: “rippa na ushi wo kuu” = eating fine beef)
Jun: Yakiniku again!? (laugh)
Breaking into the 10th year of the series, there are still a lot of projects which we haven’t got down to doing, right~.
Shou: Truly, and we’ve been doing this for so long too. This year is the 10th year of these challenges huh?
It’s only 1 year after after Arashi’s own 10th anniversary. The 10th year of Monthly 「Arashi」 has already started. We’ll reach our 10th year this coming September.
Ohno: Uwah~, I still remember the first challenge. I just can’t think that it has already been 10 years.

Jun: Arashi used to be in quite a minor section (laugh), it’s really kind of you for going on for so long without abandoning us.

I have a small question. Do you girls (guys?) prefer the format of this post, in which I only color Arashi's names and not their whole sentences, or
this type of format, in which I color both the guys' names and their sentences?
Edit: to all the sweethearts that answered the question above, thanks a bunch :D I didn't expect that from this one simple question I'd get so many responses, moreover, many responses all full of love and encouragement *proceed to squish all of you in a big big hug*. I'm sorry I couldn't reply to all of your comments (I never seem to be able to do so in all of my translation posts *sigh*) because my Internet connection has been flickering on and off too frequently lately, but it's a sure thing, as sure as the fact that Arashi has 5 members, that I always read and appreciate everything you girls wrote to me here ♥
Well, so far, it's obvious that this format is preferred by the majority of my readers, and the main problem with the other format turned out to be Nino's (and sometimes Aiba chan's) character color... I think I can pretty much make up my mind regarding which format to use from now on :D
