Last night I threw my first successful medium-larger pot It's totally bland, but it's 9 inches across and four inches tall... only one inch in each direction smaller than the minimum size for the project due on thursday. I'm pumped- only a few people in my class are throwing bigger yet, and when I pointed out that mine was ever so slightly off center at the base, my professor said not to worry about it, and that it was good.
Today we work on our raku pieces for the Sunday raku party (note to self- 2:00 PM bring 3m dust mask, gloves and horse hair) I'm really excited for the class, but it's more work than I've ever had to put into a class and honestly I don't feel like i'm doing that well at it. Though I suppose relative to everyone else I might be.
I worked with char yesterday. She has a hole in the sole of her foot from an old abcess that bothers her at the run, but not at the walk, so I did some basic ground work with her, and found out the great thing about split reins is that you can untie them and long rein with them! I did some long reining and she was seriously beautiful and soft and ... pranciful?
On Saturday, I talked with Linda Fretz about un-gaiting a horse. She said it's totally possible and not that hard to teach a gaited horse to trot, as well as run. Granted, it'd be fun to turn char into a cute little dressage horse.. but she's not reallymine, so I'm not going to try it. I could always do gaited dressage, as long as we're not expected to canter.
Kaykay when you come home, first thing we have to do is look into finding somewhere that'll fire for us, for real... and second thing we have to do is head out to rovins to get something to throw with because the RORAKU is WAY too groggy.. it made my hands bleed.
I wish I had open access to a kiln... damn...
I should just start saving for one, or something... the smaller electric kilns go up to cone 6 (i know i know, nothing compared to cone 10 or 11) and are less than a grand. Maybe Jen would be interested in selling hers... she said she wanted to find somebody who'd trade it for a four shaft loom. Maybe I could find someone to buy a floor loom from and trade it to jen for her kiln.. hahaha.
Hmm... rambling... sorry.
