My arm tendons hurt and my knees feel like they have cavities D:

Generally not a good thing, but after volunteering for the day at school, I have to say it was worth it to see all the old faces again.

Kasey and I were originally going to go out and help Mrs. F (EE 10), but Courtney split us up saying she only needed one student, so I got shoved down to the science wing--which is a MESS because of construction--with a couple of other kids. I didn't have a clock with me, so I can't give acurate times, but I think we were down there for an hour and a half sorting boxes, loading boxes, unloading boxes... and of course Mr. Wall had four times as much stuff as anyone else, so we were working on his pile for-fucking-ever.

(Note: the construction workers often offered to help us. We always said no, though. I don't think it's so much that we wanted to prove we could do it ourselves, as much as it is those construction workers creeped me, us, out.)

Finally sick of carrying textbooks, Kasey and I snuck off to find a better job, but were unfortunately captured by Mrs. Basler--who as it turns out, is now Mrs. M, my brother's biology teacher (got married, I guess). Anyway, she sent me out to find index cards, which took me three tries and a dozen "WTF you are so retarded" looks from bitch!secretary. I also ran into Mr. N when I was down by the offices, and he was really nice (of course): he asked me how my summer went, etc.

So THEN, Mrs. Basler (wtf, I'm never going to remember her by any other name) had me reorganize her file cabinet, which was the singlemost awful job anyone could ever have. Each folder (and there had to have been hundreds) had at least three different things written on the tab, which didn't necessarily correspond to its contents, and all the subjects and chapters were mixed around and HOLY FUCK I wanted to SCREAM. Eventually she had Tim (totally different Tim) come over and help me. He didn't serve much of a purpose (then again, neither did I), but he worked as a sort of suicide watch.

At 11a, Mrs. Basler took off for some meeting, and Tim and I just shoved the rest of the files into a new drawer and called it good.

By now I was sweating profusely, so I gave myself a five minute break, went to the bathroom, and then took up Audra on her tip that the library wanted helpers. So I walked in, and of course, they didn't need me, but the timing was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFULLY PERFECT, because as I walked out, turned, and made my way up the stairs, I ran into David who asked if I needed a job. I said yeah, and he asked if I wanted to help number books for Mr. P. OMG ARE YOU SHITTING ME?! MOST AWSOME JOB EVER!

... I said yes.

On the way, Tim joined up with us, so it was us three by the time we got to Mr. P's room and he walked us to the English lounge and gave us the instructions. Turns out, we had a shitton of books to number--at least 300 of each. It was long work, but easy on the back, so I took it. Oh, and hey, I saw Mr. T when he came to drop the stamp off. He still remembers my name! xD I'm so cool.

I told Mr. P that Mrs. Basler made me organize her file drawer earlier and his eyes widened and he said "Ohhh, my god. That must have been..." I laughed and agreed it was pretty horrible. :D

Lunch was provided, so we took a break and headed for for cafeteria. It was the Middle School faculty, the High School (ha, I wrote "Hugh School"), and the volunteer students. I had a gross sandwich, a gross brownie (INORITE?!), and a bottle of water. Kasey and Theresa went someplace for lunch, so I was stuck more or less alone, just watching people and waiting for the guys to finish up. Dude, Mr. E shaved off his mustache. He looks so weird! I was like, Ah, grow it back! D:

When we got back to the English office, Mr. E was there talking with Mrs. SoaS about a trip he made to England, I guess. I had no idea they were friends. Turns out Mr. E is afraid of cows, too, but to be fair--he did walk right into their pasture.

From then on, I worked with the guys to unpack, stamp, and number the books. Later on a couple other kids would join us, but it was still exhausting work. At 3p, most of the kids (including me) went home, leaving one girl to continue working by herself (she said until, like, 5.30. Holy crap).

I talked to Courtney, and I think I might come in tomorrow from 12.30 to 3p. You know, to make it an even 11 volunteer hours (as opposed to 7.5).

Actually, I think I will.

ETA: Oh yeah, I also met our new principal. He shook my hand for an awkward amount of time before finally asking my name. Yeah. I can has diploma nao?
