Scott threw the door open as he stalked into the bedroom. He slammed open and closed his dresser drawers as he pulled out a clean pair of boxers and a t-shirt to sleep in. Jean did not speak until he sat on the edge of the bed and looked at her expectantly.
"What's wrong, Scott?" her voice was calm as she pulled on her blue robe.
"What's wrong? What were you doing alone in that jerk's bedroom? And why on earth were you touching him?"
The venom in his voice surprised Jean. At times like these, it was disturbing to her that she could not look into his eyes.
"Scott, I showed him to his bedroom. He asked me what my power was and I told him I was telepathic. He wanted me to read his mind. That was it." Her voice was tight with annoyance that he didn't trust her. He immediately recognized the tone and his anger melted.
"I'm sorry, Jean. I just get a bad vibe from him. And I can tell he's attracted to you."
She sat next to him on their bed and placed her right hand on his left knee. "And I am attracted to you, but I thought you knew that by now."
Scott took her hand in his, lovingly caressing it. "I do know that. I love you so much I could never bear to lose you."
He lifted her hand to his mouth and kissed it gently. She shivered with anticipation of what was to come. Scott's gentle touch was one of the things she loved most about him. He smiled at her as his lips slid up her arm, gently kissing that secret spot in the crook of her elbow that drove her mad. His soft chuckle drew Jean's attention away from the sensations that were shooting through her body.
"What's so funny?"
"I'm just remembering the first time I kissed you there."
Jean chuckled with him as she remembered that night.

They had been circling each other for nearly three months, ever since his arrival at the new school. Jean had been there from the start, but he was brought there against his will. She and Ororo had become fast friends, and both were developing control of their skills under Professor Xavier's tutelage.
When he arrived Jean didn't know how the professor had found this troubled young man with the blindfold or why he would bring him to school if he didn't want to be there. She soon learned of his power and felt bad that he could not see the beautiful things around him. She immediately tried to make him feel welcome but he constantly rebuffed her attempts at friendship. He was used to being alone and did not understand that she, Ororo and the others had gone through similar torment in school like which he had.
Since they had all their classes together and the professor hadn't yet figured out a way for him to control his eyes, Jean made it a point to sit next to him and help him. He finally acquiesced and allowed her and Ororo to help him, though he still kept himself away from the other students. After a month, Jean finally admitted to her best friend that she was attracted to this rebellious boy. Ororo claimed to have realized that from the moment he arrived at the school.
Scott wouldn't admit it, but he had started to have feelings for Jean too. He was impressed with her perseverance in breaking down his walls and thought she had a beautiful voice. He wanted nothing more than to be able to lay his eyes on her and see if her face was as beautiful as her voice and her personality.
The day finally came when the professor told Scott that he had developed a way for Scott to control his power. He gave him his very first visor, made with special glass that would harness the powerful energy that emanated from his eyes. Jean immediately offered to help Scott learn to use the visor.
The first thing that Scott saw when he opened his eyes after securing the visor to his head was a young woman more beautiful than any he had ever seen. She was breathtaking. Her smile was so bright and friendly and he realized with a fluttering in his stomach that it was meant for him.
They went into the garden so he could practice manipulating the visor and the beams of energy that it controlled. Jean used her newly controlled telekinesis to float plates into the sky for him to shoot down. They worked together for hours that first afternoon. Laughing like children at his misses and celebrating his successes. By the end of the afternoon, he had gained impressive control of his new visor and was happy to be drinking in the sights of the school he had been living in for the last three months. When they went inside to report his progress to the professor, Scott was given another gift, a pair of regular glasses with the same red lenses. He was so grateful and deeply ashamed at his bad behavior when he first arrived. Understanding where his anger had come from, Professor Xavier forgave him.
He was settling in for the night, exhausted from all the excitement of the day when he heard a soft knock on his bedroom door.
"Come in."
"Sorry to bother you so late," she apologized. "But there is something I want you to see, now that you can. If you're interested that is." Jean didn't seem herself, so shy and awkward about asking him.
He immediately jumped out of bed and put on some shoes and a sweatshirt and followed her. She took him back to the garden where they had spent the day. He immediately spotted the blanket on the ground. Taking him by the hand, she led him straight there.
"What..." she held a finger to his lips and shook her head. He followed her lead and lay on the blanket next to her. He wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to be looking at, but being so close to her had his heart beating in double time.
She pointed up and he finally noticed the millions of stars in the sky. It was a beautiful sight. They lay next to each other in silence, for what seemed like an eternity, just looking at the stars. Scott finally worked up his nerve and took her hand. A small smile played across her lips as she intertwined her fingers with his. After several more long minutes lying like that, he worked his nerve up again and lifted her hand to his lips, gently kissing the top of it. Her soft sigh encouraged him and he began to place soft kissed on her wrist and up her arm. When his lips reached the crook of her elbow, she let out a startled gasp. Afraid that he had overstepped his bounds, he immediately dropped her hand.
Jean finally rolled onto her side and looked past the red glasses, deep into Scott's eyes. He held her gaze, trying to read the emotions in her face, but he was too out of practice to know what she was feeling or thinking. After a moment, Jean leaned down and pressed her lips against his. Their kiss deepened as their arms found their way around each other.

Jean broke the kiss, looking at the man whom she had fallen in love with all those years ago, in that very garden. It was still their special spot. They had even discussed having a wedding there someday.
Scott's hands moved to the belt of Jean's robe. He didn't know what had caused his lapse in trust in her. They had been together for what seemed like forever and he knew their love was true. He began to unknot the robe and stopped dead when Jean gasped.
"Logan."
"What?" Scott sat up and looked at her, his anger starting to build again.
"He's in trouble. Come on."
She jumped up and re-tied her robe. Scott was reaching for his slippers when he heard the yell.
"Someone help me. Help me please!"
Jean reached for his hand. "I love you," she said quietly as they raced down the hall to Logan's room to see what was wrong.
