"You bet," Bobby told her, and clicked the television on for the opening credits of a Pixar movie. "Might have some sour patch watermelon barrels around here somewhere, too," he offered, settling her warmly against his side, and covering them both with a blanket.
She looked up at him, as the familiar strains of Monsters, Inc. washed over her. She loved that movie. She loved the core message of a child, loved despite the differences between worlds. "You know me," she said, and laughed. "And you love me anyway. That's the best thing in the world."
She snuggled down, under the blankets, wrapped in his arms, and she slipped peacefully into sleep.
