Taryn and Kallista ^^
<> Living Room - Lv1
This, my friends, is a place for people to come and relax. Broad wide screen television in one area of the room with various other sofas and chairs around. Vivid walls of pale green and embossed gold wallpaper add a friendly air to this place. Tables, whether coffee or card, line the room, as well as an air-hockey table and fooze ball table for games. Closets support various items for fun, large bay windows give light to the room. Large hearth opens up onto a gorgeous brick fireplace with wide spread marble mantle.

It certainly is a nice room for people to come and relax...if they didn't have so much on their minds that made it so hard to do so. Taryn slouches down on the sofa, remote control in hand as she flips through the channels. There was nothing good on tv, and even if there was she wasn't focusing on it. With a sigh, she finally surrenders and gives the remote a toss onto the nearest table, leaving it on whatever channel it happened to land on. A cooking network. Well, that would do. It was much better than any of the number of news channels. All they deliver is bad news, and she's seen enough of that. Glancing around, Taryn slips her shoes off before drawing her legs up and curling them beneath her.
The place is so /BIG/, Kallista spent a lot of her time trying to find places she can sit in where no one visits and no one can find her, when she wants to be alone. So far, not much luck, save for in the woods, which is thick enough for her to hide pretty much /anywhere/. And there's that hayloft above the stables, which Kallista spends most of her time in. One might wonder what she does all that time? Well.. she thinks. The thing is, because she's only 10 going on 11, people think she /acts/ 10 going on 11. She has the mentality of a 16 year old, often enough. Having convinced herself that this whole situation was /her/ fault, sitting in silence, Kallista finally decides to go look for her mother. So it is, that Stitch comes bounding into the living room to leap into Taryn's lap. Arf! ^n.n^
Taryn's eyes lid slowly, lulled by the making of a carrot cake on the huge screen in front of her. That might be good, actually. But the kitchen feels pretty far away. As stated, the place is huge! Taryn tells herself that's the reason she feels so lonely. But she won't have that dilemma for much longer at least, as her eyes open wide and she jumps a little at Stitch's arrival. "Hey, what're you up to?" She grins, roughing her hands against the pup's fur and ears to get him worked up into a playful mood. Taryn blinks, sitting up a little straighter again so she can have a look around for Kisa. She was hoping more than assuming they were together this time. Kisa's been spending so much time alone. It left her feeling torn between giving her room to breathe, and clinging on to her the way she wants. The latter as much for herself than anything.
Whenever she could, certainly. She didn't feel comfortable being around her mother, knowing how she ruined the stability of her mother's life, by being sick. Not to mention father - he hasn't come in over a week, and Kallista's worried he either doesn't /want/ to come because he blames her, or he died because of her. Stitch wags his tail and wiggles about, to slobber all over Taryn's face as he's worked up, while a few seconds later Kallista comes trotting in. Okay so she wasn't /always/ alone. Stitch generally was with her every minute; the times he wasn't was .. okay he was pretty much at her side all the time. Spying her mother on the couch though, she smiles, always intent on putting on a brave face for her mother's sake.
"Ahh!" Taryn screams, thrashing her head back and forth to try and avoid doggie drool. She can't help but smile at the same time though, wondering if his tail isn't going to beat him half to death. She stops resisting when she sees Kallista finally entering the room though, and does much the same thing. She's blaming herself for a lot of things as well, wishing she could go back in time... But she couldn't waste too much energy on remorse. If Alexi doesn't come back, she'll need to be strong enough to be mother and father for Kallista. And a much better one than she has been. "Hey sweets." She greets warmly, patting a place on the overstuffed couch beside her.
'Hi mom!' Kallista 'says'. Only she rasps a breath instead, makes a face and scampers over to bounce onto the couch and snuggle up next to her mother. ONly to flail a bit when Stitch seizes hold of her sleeve and starts tugging. Come play with meeeeeeeeeeee! ^n.n^ So Kisa 'anchors' herself by clinging onto her mother with her other hand, giggling silently. Help! n.n
Taryn blinks, her smile fading. She knows Kisa said something. She saw her lips move, but she didn't hear anything come out! Taryn frowns, leaning in a little to place her hand against Kisa's forehead, which quickly moves to the side of her neck to feel for swollen glands. Of course, this all sounds easier than it actually is with a fuzzy ball of energy doing his best to pull her 'patient' away from her. "Kisa, what's wrong with your voice?" She asks, concern heavy in her own. When Kallista giggles, it normally fills up the room, or at least that's how it seems.
Kallista wrestles with her puppy, trying to pull her arm back, and getting tugged forward at the same time. Though she's distracted when her mother suddenly feels her forehead, and then the sides of her neck. At the question, she gives a casual shrug as if to say, 'Dunno. Got a sore throat I guess.' Then she looks back to Stitch, grinning as she musses his floppy ears.
That worried expression deepens as Taryn slides a hand gently under Kisa's chin, trying to turn her face back to her once more. Poor Stitch, he's not getting his attention! "Open up and go 'Ahhhh'." Taryn demonstrates, her own mouth opening and making the sound as she waits for Kisa to mimic. She isn't exactly sure what she's looking for in Kisa's throat. o.o; Just something that seems out of the ordinary. And...it's the same thing her mother had done when Taryn was little. Though her parents probably weren't the greatest role-models for Taryn to be following.
Sheesh, she feels fine! o_o .. or as fine as a 10 year old who blames herself for her parents recent problems does. So when she halts fussing with Stitch, the pup starts whining, trying to mush his head up between the two. Pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeee~! ^;.;^ Kallista is obedient however, and opens her mouth. 'Aaaah'! .. But no sound comes out. She has chocolate on her breath though. She was nibbling at some of the candy she got out of the pantry the other night.
Taryn can save the candy speech for some other time. o.o; She squints her eyes a little bit, tilting her head from side to side as she takes a long look at her throat. "I hope you're not coming down with something." With the stress she's been under lately, all of her body's defenses were probably down. "You haven't been sleeping in the stables, have you?" Taryn suspected it, but said nothing. And even if she did...well, let's face it, Kisa would probably sneak and sleep there anyway! And Taryn doesn't want to take away something she really loves, not right now. With a sigh, her hand slides away from Kallista's chin, reaching to ruffle Stitch's ears. "Next time you go there, I want you to take some things with you." An extra sweater, a thermos of soup... Yeah, she'll put a little Kisa Stable Kit together personally.
Woo hoo, no candy speech! n.n She looks sheepish about the question of sleeping in the stables; which she has! But only sometimes. n.n She nodnods easily at that. Course she'll get some stuff next time. More candy maybe, and some sugar for the horses, and carrots too. Those animals are going to be so spoiled when she gets through with them. Stitch wags his tail, happy that he's getting attention again, and once more tries to climb up into Taryn's lap. When he gets big, that's going to be a pain. n.n
Taryn sighs and leans back against the couch again, helping Stitch into her lap while he can still fit. Her other arm slides along the back of the couch, around Kallista's shoulders. She really shouldn't bother Doctor Grey about this, even if that's what Taryn wants to do. She'll give it a couple of days, just to see. But that does remind her of something else. "Have you had a chance to talk to Doctor Grey yet?" She questions, her fingers idly combing through Kisa's hair. She isn't sure if anyone's brought the subject up to the girl yet, that of the tests they might need to run to see if Essex planted anything in her. After hearing the story about how Nate came to be, Taryn's more concerned about it than ever.
Curling up in Taryn's lap, Stitch lets his head rest against the arm of the couch, his tail thumping happily. Kallista smiles, snuggling against her mother and playing with her puppy's tail when it comes in contact with her lap. The question about talking to Dr. Grey though, is confusing. Kisa glances up to her mother, shaking her head and mouthing 'Why?'. She figures if she exercises her vocal chords enough her voice will miraculously return! And she won't have to take any nasty medicine. >.>
"Well..." Taryn sighs, glancing away to the big screen. Hmm, lemon pepper chicken. That looks pretty good too, but why did they start with dessert? She glances back to Kallista's expectant face, smiling a little bit. "She just wants to check and make sure that when your powers were 'fixed', nothing else was done to you, accidentally or otherwise." She'll have to find Kisa some pretty stationery to write things down on until her voice comes back, or maybe even an Etch-a-Sketch! "It's nothing to be scared of. But Doctor Grey will explain everything to you before you have to decide anything."
Chicken isn't dessert! Kallista frowns slightly - sure she heard Essex was responsible for stealing Nate, and all but .. she can't quite reconcile that her 'dear Uncle' would do anything bad to /her/. Pouting a bit, she waves a hand slightly. She can't do anything, so the powers must be fixed! o_o Of course.. having no voice kind of sucks. Course, Kallista always was an expressive little girl. So she nods an 'okay', and sighs, glancing towards the window. When /is/ Papa supposed to be back anyway? She /thought/ he would be here the same evening they were..
But the carrot cake was, and that was the recipe the show began with. Though...getting to eat the cake first probably isn't the worst idea. Taryn sighs, smiling a little bit at the 'okay', but feeling the need to emphasize something. "Now I just want you to talk to her, hear her out. But it's your decision." Kallista needs to feel in control of something. Her own body should top that list. And she knows how intelligent Kallista really is. It's not a mother's bias either! Taryn follows her gaze to the window, thinking much the same thing. "Hey...you want to see a trick? You can use it on your father when he gets home." Taryn leans forward, trying not to disturb Stitch too much as she reaches for a deck of cards on the table.
Oh well if that's the case. Kallista quirks a brow at the point being made that it was her decision. Huh. Wow, she has the power in something! WOOHOO! She's unstoppable! A bright grin takes the place of the confused expression on her face, as she nods first - and then 'oos' to sit forward and pay even closer attention to the trick. She didn't know her mother knew card games! .. of course she also missed five years - one day she's going to find out /why/ she hasn't seen her mother in five years though.
Taryn takes a deep breath, leaning forward a bit and putting both hands behind her back once she has the cards. "Now...mom's just a human, but sometimes she can be psychic too." She lowers her voice, as if it were a big secret. "I'm going to show you a card, and tell you what the card is without even looking at it." She blinks, pausing there before adding with a sheepish smile. "The first one's always hard. It takes a minute to get warmed up. But here goes..." She holds the deck of cards out, face forward with the front one towards Kisa. Taryn should only be able to see the back of the deck. "Four of hearts?" She asks, wincing a little bit and putting them behind her back again. "No, that wasn't right." And as predicted, she messed the first one up. She really is psychic! But then she holds the cards out towards Kisa again. "Nine of diamonds." And this time she's right! o.o;
This should be good. Kallista grins in amusement as she shifts for a better position in watching the magick. The first time the card is guessed wrong, Kallista helpfully shakes her head and giggles. But it was a valiant try! Of course her giggling stops when the second card is guessed /correctly/, causing Kisa's eyes to go round and her mouth to part in a 'WOW!' o_o And then she peers mock-suspiciously at the card. Did you mark theese? o_-
Taryn grins at Kisa's impressed expression. Yeah, that's what she was going for! She recoils the cards behind her back, both hands needed to switch to the next card before the one hand holds the deck forward again. "Queen of clubs!" Right again! "Ten of diamonds!" And again. "Three of spades!" And again... Taryn repeats the act a few times, never once trying to sneak a peek at the front card. Finally she stops, tilting her head at Kallista with a glimmer in her eyes. "Wanna know how I do it? I never would tell your dad." But now she's ready to share her secret, for her daughter to carry on the tradition! o.ov
And each time her mother gets the card right, Kisa's awe increases o_o She's obviously not cheating since she's not trying to look at the cards. Unless this is some memory game, and she's memorized every card in the deck or something. The offer to tell how the game is done earns a small bounciebounce and a nod! TELL TELL!
Taryn laughs at Kallista's enthusiasm, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes as she keeps the deck of cards held forward just a moment longer. And then she turns her hand around to show Kisa the back of them. At least...it should be the back of them. o.o; But it isn't! "See, you cut the deck in half and place them back to back. Then, when I'm showing you the card I'm guessing, I can see the card that I'm going to show you next." She explains, and then shows how she puts them behind her back and just flips the card she was just looking at to the front of the deck. Voila! Instant psychic powers!
GASP! Which does at least have some sound when Kisa does it, and to show her approval for the sneaky trick, she brings her fingers to her mouth and whistles. Wooo! n.n She's going to try that one on Papa! If he ever joins them. Sigh. Of course Stitch is always one to pick up on bad moods and the like, so it comes as no surprise when he picks his head up from the arm of the chair, gives Kisa a quick lick on the nose and then lies his head down again as if nothing happened. Kisa makes an 'eeeeeeeeew'! face >.<
"Now, when you try it out on your dad..." Because great minds think alike. o.ov "...make sure you bet him a dollar each guess." D'oh! How sneaky! But Alexi would give her that money anyway, and Taryn knows it. "That's what I used to do. It's how I bought this necklace." She says it a bit /too/ proudly, holding the pendant out to show her. That probably never happened, but it sounds funny. Taryn keeps her head lowered for a moment, blinking quickly before reaching a hand up to cover her eyes. She takes a deep breath, collecting herself quickly before laughing at Stitch's antics.
Kallista giggles heartily at the thought. She'll be rich! RICH! And she'll be able to go out and buy candy - OODLES and OODLES of Candy! .. but yeah, dad probably /would/ give her the money even if she guessed wrong. When Taryn mentions that it was how she bought the necklace, Kallista laughs again - poor daddy! And with both girls at it, it's be poor literally and not just figuratively! n.n
