Pirates!

Jul 11, 2006 21:39

Well! I believe there can be little that I do not know about pirates now. There are good stories about them, and those films were very enjoyable. I can only wonder how much of it is true. I should go and see the new Pirates of the Caribbean film soon, since I would guess this is what made Jareth choose a pirate theme to start with: perhaps there is a little more to be learned.

Also, I think I will be going to the ren faire. I have been told this is more fun to do in a costume, but I have never been to anything like this before and do not know what sort of costume I should be wearing. If anyone has any suggestions, please then let me know.

There remains no news of Illyana.

Salem Center

After a wonderfully stormy evening the weather today has taken a turn for the better. In an effort to get something a little more interesting for food, Alex has taken it upon himself to venture to one of the local bistro for a quiet lunch. Cheery summer clothing wraps him today, as does a serene, relaxed aura as he sits at a small iron table and sips at coffee. While Alex isn't exactly a small man, partially demonstrated by the petite woman accompanying him, he seems dwarfed by the much larger individual beside him. "So...Russia?" He inquires idly, a glance going to the small snack sandwich on a saucer before him.

Motivated similarly to Alex, Edwin has taken a bus out to the countryside... Or at least the most 'countryside' area he's seen as of yet with his own eyes. Having quelled the loss of appetite due to long trips on public transportation, he's starting to get hungry, and thus heads into Salem Center to get a bite to eat. As he walks, his backpack swings over one shoulder to his front, where he digs for his wallet, stepping up against the side of a certain nearby bistro in a Downtown-instinct to get out of potential pedestrians he might be interfering with.

Also out to enjoy the pleasant weather and company, Piotr sits straight in his chair, though his intention is on the table below him. At Alex's question, he looks up from his inspection of his sandwich to his companion, and gives a small smile. "Yes. Near Lake Baikal." The sandwich is disregarded for a moment and he picks up his cup of coffee instead, taking a small drink of the scalding hot liquid.

Well, when in Rome.. Amara seems quite content to get away from the Mansion for at least a little bit. Sharing lunch with Alex and Piotr's as good an excuse as any. She picks tea over coffee, taking a contented sip while she listens in on the two before adding her own commentary. "Do you ever feel homesick now and then?"

The lapse in conversation affords Alex the opportunity to pick up the needlessly expensive sandwich and taking a bite out of it, chewing it thoughtfully and swallowing it before breaking into a smile. Edwin's movement out of the corner of his eye draws his attention instantly and, after a thoughtful glare, he softens and calls out to him. "Hey! Hey you!"

Alex's call out to Edwin luckily falls on listening ears, and he looks up, swivelling his head back and forth as he tries to locate where the call came from. Eventually, his eyes land on Alex, and narrow, before raising a hand in a small wave, hardly enthusiastic, polite at best. Then, he goes back to fishing for his wallet.

"Yes, sometimes I am wishing I could return there more often," Piotr replies quietly, though his sentence is cut off halfway by Alex's call and he looks round quickly towards the man the words are directed at. The terse response holds his attention for a second, but he dismisses it and returns his gaze to Amara. "There are very many things that are different in Russia."

Amara nods a little. "I guess I could say the same for London.. Not to say I'm not enjoying my stay here." She's also brought to pause upon seeing Alex's interaction with another, obviously not very familiar with Edwin.. Again she hears out Piotr, nodding lightly. "I'm sure there are. I've never been there myself.." She finally takes a moment to speak to Alex. "Is that a friend of yours?"

"Friend's a 'nice' word." Alex muses bitterly and reaches for his sandwich. "Spent a few days in jail with him." Slurp. He takes in another mouthful of coffee and gulps it down then, on a whim, turns back towards Edwin. "Ever find a job?" Alex masks his voice as best he could. The effect isn't as effective as he had hoped.

Finding his wallet, finally, and pulling it out of his backpack to stuff it in his pocket, Edwin watches Alex, focusing mostly on his lips. The question is given a purse of the lips before the response. "No, I haven't. Did y-you lose your scho-scholarship?" A quick brow raise of concern. As a teacher, he'd genuinely feel bad about something like that.

Piotr's eyes widen momentarily at Alex's mention of spending time in jail, then narrow as his eyebrows press together in a look of mild concern. With no further information apparently forthcoming, and Alex obviously having got out of jail safe and well, he takes another drink of his coffee and then picks up his sandwich, remaining quiet and listening to the conversation.

Well, there's something unexpected.. Amara can only nod a little, her face showing faint but obvious signs of surprise as well while she sits there listening to the exchanges between the two.

"No, I didn't." Alex admits quietly. With the admission is the realization that, because of an earlier oath, he won't be punching Edwin today. A disappointing thought. A smile is turned back to the pair around him. "So both of you are Emerson-bound?"

"Good to h-hear." And, it would seem that is all from Edwin, though for convenience's sake, he sits at a nearby table, picking up a menu with one hand and looking over it appraisingly, quickly locating something that piqued his palate, and setting it down.

"Yes," confirms Piotr, after carefully finishing his mouthful, "although I will be staying at the school mostly. I have studied there for two years already, and being there all the time was not perhaps best suited to me." He gives a small smile and offers, "There are many things to be doing there, however."

Amara looks down at her sandwich contemplatively. "I'm not sure, but I suppose I will be for convenience sake.. As it is though, it looks like I might be staying at Xavier's for one more year." She really needs to check on that.

Alex shakes his head at the answers, swallowing his food before talking again. "A lot of you guys seem to loiter there. Hell, aren't all the teachers ex-students?"

Hm. Edwin's eavesdropping, naturally, and listening carefully at the conversation. Xavier's just keeps coming up in front of him, it seems.

A wistful smile comes to Piotr's face at Alex's remark. "Most of them, yes," he says. "For many, it is their only home. For everyone, it is at least some sort of home. It is my hope to stay to give back the help that others have given to me when I was a student."

Amara blushes mildly.... Seems Alex's figured it out. She continues to look over the sandwich, finally giving a complimentary nibble off of it before looking up again. "Kind of embarassed to say, but that's what I was thinking of doing too. I guess at this rate there'll end up being more teachers than students. n.n;"

It's all so familiar to Alex he lets out a tired groan. "Is this a joke? Maybe you guys have earpieces with Scott feeding you lines?" He asks in an entirely lighthearted tone.

Just when he was about to interject, Edwin's being helped. So, it ends up being a sort of half-turn to one side, then a full turn towards the waiter. He's occupied with him at the moment, ordering a sandwich and trying to listen and not be obvious about it at the same time.

Piotr's eyebrows raise in mild bemusement. "A joke?" he queries. "No, this is the truth. At home, it is the duty of each person to give to the community everything they are able, and I feel this is how I should act here also."

Amara shakes her head.. She does smile though, noting Alex's tone.. Still, there's a hint of seriousness in her face as she starts to speak up, her tone quieting a little. It's in public afterall.. "All I know is that I watched a school back home go up in flames because I lost control.. A lot of people got hurt back then too." It never got pegged as being from a mutant publically, but it doesn't make things any easier for her to bear. "I know what it's like to be afraid, and now I know there's more out there that're going through the same thing. I was lucky enough to be able to come here. If I can help others out that're going through that sort of thing than I'm all for it."

"Noble intentions." Alex states with a small smile. The rest of his coffee is very quickly drained like water, regardless of the temperature and his tongue flicks out to lick his lips. "So what is it that you'll teach? Amara, I believe you were going in for English?"

Edwin finishes his order, and the waiter goes to fulfill it, his hand drumming on his table. Well, shoot, the lull in conversation went away. So, he just listens, turning to the side in his chair, foot tapping near-silently against the ground.

Amara nods, taking another sip of tea. Seems she's a little slow to finish her own lunch.. "That's what I'm going for now, yes.."

The rest of one triangle of sandwich is completely eradicated. Now there's another half remaining. Alex offers a nod to Amara. "Good luck, kid. What about you, Pete?"

"I was studying art and physics, although I think now I may leave the physics and concentrate on art," says Piotr, taking another sip of his cooling coffee. "It is depending upon when the classes are. And for you?" he asks of Alex. "What will be your study?"

Edwin looks up at his waiter, but as it seems, he's simply carrying exactly what he ordered to /another/ table. Hmph. Waiting, waiting for an opportunity to worm his way in... Bah, screw it. "Er, ex-excuse me. Do you know if th-there are any openings at Xav-Xavier'ss?" He tries to keep most of his focus on Amara, so as to avoid an answer from Alex. "I mean, for t-teachers."

Amara sets her tea down, eyes widened all of a sudden. With a smile, she turns her attentions to Piotr once more, seeming rather interested. "You're an artist???" She wouldn't have guessed that, it seems.. Edwin soon gets her attention, and she pauses to think. "Um... I'm really not sure, sir.."

"That nose has to hurt..." Alex growls towards Edwin, his sapphire eyes narrow with agitation as they level on the man. "...from repeatedly slamming it in other people's conversations." He noticeably calms when he looks back to Piotr. "Geophysics. I've already knocked two years out of the way."

Edwin tries... /really/ hard to just ignore Alex, flashing him a quick smile and nothing more, before he nods to Amara, turning back to his table. "Alr-right, thanks. J-just curious." After facing forward again, he looks over his other shoulder at Alex, more curious than spiteful.

"I... like to draw," Piotr tells Amara modestly, his quiet tone and gentle expression suggesting that this fact alone is a long way from making him an artist. He purses his lips at the antagonistic exchange between Alex and the stranger, watching Edwin for a moment before replying to Alex, "I also have studied for two years already." He opens his mouth to suggest that Edwin speak to Dr Grey, then thinks better of it, wondering if Alex has some important reason for disliking this unfamiliar man.

Amara doesn't need much more convincing to believe that Alex does NOT like this particular person. She isn't one to try and bring up jailtime stories though, just watching as Edwin excuses himself.. Piotr's met with another smile again. "Maybe I could see some of your work someday? I'm rather partial to drawings and art myself."

Alex raises his hands to the level of the table and rubs them together a few times then holding them together and letting them rest against it. "Anything in particular you like to draw? Maybe a favorite artist?" The question isn't necessarily directed to anybody. Instead, it's thrown into the air for either to grab.

"Well then, I would like to see some of yours also," Piotr replies to Amara with a smile that touches his eyes. Turning his head slightly to include Alex as well, he continues, "For classes, I am drawing many things, often still life. For myself, though, I am enjoying drawing people. Friends."

Amara grins. "Well, it's been a little while since I have, but sure.." Alex's answered pretty soon after. "I suppose Leonardo's still one of my favorites.." She heh's softly. "Though I can't help wondering if anyone's taken a better look at some of his works since that movie came out now."

"I haven't actually seen that movie." Alex says, unfolding his hands to pick up the remainder of his sandwich and giving it a bite. "Mmb-" No. His mouth is full, he has to swallow and try that again. "But I've heard about it. Sounds...'heavy.'"

Piotr has just spent the best part of a year in isolated parts of Russia, and so does not feel particularly well placed to discuss movies: he has, in fact, no idea what the others are talking about. Remaining silent, he pays more attention to his neglected sandwich.

Amara grins, but shrugs after a moment. "I don't know. Haven't read the book it was based off of myself." She finds herself working on finishing her sandwich, noting Piotr's quietness. She certainly wasn't looking to make him feel excluded from conversation.

Edwin finally gets his sandwich. The waiter apologizes and sets it before him, along with his drink, the customer waving a hand in disregard to the apologies. "N-not a problem, don't worry ab-about it." He sets into his sandwich, munching into it, taking that first bite carefully, stretching his mouth wide... But still managing to get that bit of shredded lettuce to fall out down onto his lap. He scoops it out and tosses it back on his plate. As for eavesdropping, his ears shift forward slightly, and he stops listening in.

The tail end of the food is very thoroughly devoured and Alex picks the napkin off of his lap to dab at the corner of his mouth. A smile turns back to Piotr. "SO you're not moving into the dorms, dude?"

Piotr responds with a shake of his head as he finishes the last of his sandwich. "No, not this year," he clarifies as he swallows the mouthful. "There are others as well who will be staying at the school but travelling to take classes. I may be staying there some nights if I must take a class early in the morning, however," he ventures, wondering if this would be possible.

While Piotr and Alex are talking about things, Amara takes a moment to peek back over towards where Edwin is sitting, still a bit curious about him since Alex knows him. A little too much curiousity going through her head at the moment. She's still able to pay attention to the conversation however, pausing to finish up what's left of her own sandwich. "I hope all of that goes well for you."

"Yeah." Alex's right eyebrow rises with a thought and his lips purse. "That's one hell of a daily commute. Sure you wouldn't rather just hit the dorms? Madrox and I are moving in there pretty soon."

"Perhaps," replies Piotr with an acquiescing gesture, though a slight upwards twist to the corners of his lips suggests that he doesn't consider the commute wholly a bad thing. "I will try living at the school first."

Edwin is really enjoyin' that sandwich. Mmm.

Alex leans back and licks at his teeth under his upper lip. "Speaking of the school, I'm about to head back. Get a workout in the woods. Maybe some Cardio?"

"Yes, this is a good idea," agrees Piotr. "I am thinking perhaps I should return there myself. If you would like a partner for the exercise...?" His voice rises at the end, half-statement becoming a question.

Amara listens in with a smile. "I suppose now's as good a time as any to go back..." She straightens up a little.. "I've got a couple of things to take care of inside, but maybe I could come back out too. I don't have too much else on my plate for the day."

Piotr goes for lunch with Alex and Amara. They talk about school and college and largely ignore Edwin. There are no explosions. It would have been better with explosions.

<> Recreation Room - Lv1

Popcorn, chocolate-covered raisins and other goodies are already set out on the coffee table in front of the couch, and a small stack of DVDs (some of which may or may not have been 'borrowed' from Kurt) rested on the corner. The chosen movies spanned decades of cinema history, leading men ranging from Errol Flynn to Johnny Depp, but they all had one thing in common: pirates. Captain Blood, Jack Sparrow, even the Dread Pirate Roberts, all would become familiar characters for a certain Russian after today.

It is a good thing Piotr went out at lunch, because from the look of things he will not be seeing daylight again until tomorrow at the earliest. Nonetheless, the presence of delicious snacks, not to mention excellent company, make staying in an appealing option. Settling back in the cushions of the couch, large bowl of popcorn nestled in a similarly large hand, this Russian is attentive and willing to learn.

Eyepatch either still worn, or simply put back on over his right eye, Jamie Madrox meanders into the rec room with a grin on his lips. His eye flickers over the other two occupants and he gives out a greeting of, "Avast! How fares the fair maiden and...fairly, large man, today?"

"We fair well! Care to join us for an evening of fine pirate cinema? There be a bounty of snacks and a pause button on hand for bathroom breaks" Kitty responds, flopping down onto the couch next to Piotr. Lockheed has already started on his snacking, and currently has half a Twizzler hanging from the side of his mouth, and is eyeing the vast amounts of popcorn Kitty has prepared.

"Ah, yes, we are well!" agrees Piotr, his enthusiasm matching that of his piratical companions even if his accent remains stubbornly, strongly Russian, and his words trimmed and neat. "And I have been promised fine entertainment. Which movie should we be starting with, do you think? They are all looking very much alike to me." A half-embarrassed, half-apologetic smile flits across his face at his woeful ignorance of all things buccaneer.

Madrox perks up a bit with the option, lifting a hand to slide the eyepatch up to rest on the side of his forehead. "Pirate cinema? Oooh, and I see we have all the greats here even too, nice." After a sweeping look at the stack of DVDs, his eyes flicker over to Kitty, then Piotr, and back again. "Ahh yes, so you're being introduced into the glory of Pirate speak, Peter? It is fun." After only a moment of thought, he moves to flop comfortably onto the couch on the other side of Kitty, then shift forward a bit to offer Lockheed more of his usual scritchings.

Lockheed makes happy little dragony noises. Food, affection and movies. What more could an extradimensional reptile ask for? Kitty gets up for a moment to slide the first movie (Captain Blood) into the DVD player before returning, grabbing a handful of popcorn on the way. "I guess we'll start with the classics" she says, settling into the couch, tucking her legs under her.

Shifting his shoulders a little to adjust the hang of his tee shirt, then tugging it when this tactic proves unsuccessful, Piotr looks amusedly apprehensive as he watches Kitty at the DVD player. "I think I will not be able to speak like this," he admits to Jamie, "but hopefully I will at least learn to understand it, yes?" There is a tiny hint of a plea in his voice.

Madrox laughs lightly and nods. "Aye, Peter, I'm sure you will after all this jargon is poured into your ears. But I mean, really...I'm sure that there must have been...uh, /some/ Russians that've turned Pirate, I'm sure you can pull it off verbally somehow. Or you could always be the first!" His own eyes drift towards Kitty, watching her for a few moments before the movie starting up calls his attention back to it, muttering, "Too bad that cutlass I had last night was just part of the sim. Way more fun than just an eye-patch."

"You can always buy a blade when we go to the ren faire" Kitty says to Jamie. "There's always at least one or two vendors selling them. Not to mention all the other goodies you can get there." She smiles wide, then takes a bite of popcorn, following it with a few sips from a can of Diet Coke. "I'm really looking forward to that. I think I even talked Rogue into coming. Oh! I bet we could dress her up like an actual rogue!"

Madrox's reassurance eases the discomfort in Piotr's expression, even drawing out a smile that lasts despite the image of Jamie with a sword coming to mind again. "You are going to the ren faire?" he asks with mild curiosity, not so much out of any desire to buy swords and other goodies, but interested in what sounds like a big trip. "There are many people going?"

"Now /that/ would be /too perfect/," Madrox states with a huge grin dancing over his lips. "Rogue as a rogue, that's great. I know, I can't wait until the season starts up, and we can get it a bit more organized." His eyes widen with excitement now, flickering from Kitty over to Piotr. "The list is ever growing, recruiting people here and there as time passes."

"Do you want to come with us?" she asks Piotr eagerly. "You don't /have/ to wear a costume if you don't want to. We've just been trying to talk people into going in garb, it's just more /fun/ that way." A little on the warm side, but fun nonetheless.

Piotr smiles at the invitation, nodding slowly at first, and then with more conviction. "Yes, I would like to come," he says. "It is sounding like fun. If I am to wear a costume, however, I may have to ask for your help to find one." The awkward little smile is back. "Have you chosen what you will be wearing yet?" he asks them both.

Madrox grins and nods quickly, "Oh it will definitely be fun, Peter. Oh I can't wait, yet /another/ thing I find I can geek out with Kitty about. This is something that's definitely not going to fade away and not happen. -OH, hey," Jamie's eyebrows flicker upwards, his gaze returning to Kitty, "so do they have like, themed weekends here for the RenFaire? I know they do some places, but I've never...actually been able to /go/ to one before."

"Oh yay!" Kitty says with a bit of a clap when Piotr agrees to come with them "I have some generic peasant garb I'm going to dress up a bit with some fantasy elements" she answers, then turns to Jamie "They do, I think they're doing a pirate weekend, a Scottish weekend and... ah, I can't remember the others." She offers a wry smile "I think you could pull off a kilt" she says teasingly.

Chuckling at the kilt remark and with a little shake of his head, Piotr picks idly at the bowl of popcorn on his lap as he thinks through costumes he could attempt. His current wardrobe seems to preclude dressing up as anything other than Piotr Rasputin, and the idea of a kilt is not appealing. His eyes travel to the screen where Captain Blood is proceeding mostly unheeded, unfocussing in thought.

Excited laughter of his own is bubbling out of Madrox where he sits, grin almost too wide for his cheeks. "Oh I can't believe how great everything is going lately. I mean, this is solidifying, we're getting another person to go too, we've got that Pirate sim we can do in the Danger Room with Jareth, Emerson's working out for me great." He takes a breath through a few chuckles before continuing, "I've even met more people going to Emerson too already, and now things seem to be falling into a place with a PI firm in New York too!"

Kitty leans over to give Jamie a friendly hug "that's great! I'm so glad things are working out so well for you!" she says genuinely. It's easy for one to forget that Jamie has lost as much as he has, he always manages to keep such an optimistic, cheerful outlook. It's so nice to see the world conforming to such an attitude for once.

Attention returned to the conversation by Madrox's exuberant outburst, a smile comes to Piotr's face at the obvious weight of the young man's happiness, glad for him even though the two met only the day before. As Kitty hugs Jamie, he turns away in silence, smile fading gently to the solemnity of introspection. Perhaps, he thinks, hopes, it is a time when things will start to go as well for him too.

Madrox perks up even more with the hug, turning towads Kitty to hold her in the hug until she slips away. "Isn't it? Yeah, it's great, and that Alex guy seems really cool too. He wants me to maybe head over to the dorms with him early, before the next semester actually starts...and, I don't know, I just might, who knows. I mean, lately it feels like I've been in New York more often than not anyway." The last part is muttered as his attention returns to the movie, reaching for the popcorn but finding Lockheed instead and settling there for the time being, offering semi-distracted attention to his winged friend.

"That sounds like a good idea, especially if it means you can get your dorm room set up a bit before moving in" Kitty says, then turns to watch the movie for a few moments. It's kind of funny to see where a certain friend of hers draws his inspiration from. Everything, she thinks, is going so well. Part of her can't help but wonder when something is going to explode or attack or tear apart the space-time continuum.

Nothing, however, inturrupts the pleasant evening of our three young mutants. Snacks are eaten, movies enjoyed, and plans made. Even heroes need time off, after all.
Kitty makes Piotr watch pirate movies all evening. Madrox is there too. Kilts are discussed.
