<> Chrome's Room
The Island had long since ground to a halt for those /not/ on the nocturnal sleep cycle. What time is it? Two? Three in the morning? Lillianne holds outside Justin's door and leans her forehead against the wood before knocking swiftly and stepping back.
The sound of a start is the only clue from within. Cloth, or blankets rustling once, sharply, and then stillness. Unseen within, Justin stares around the darkness of his room, wondering if he'd dreamed that sound- whether someone was sneaking around in his room, or- god forbid: someone knock on the door.. He does'nt move until the sound repeats itself.
Again comes hte knock, this time accompanied by the sound of the knob being tested and a whispered "Justin?" If he doesn't answer in three seconds, Lilli's scrambling for her room, and its and ignorance's relative safety.
Chrome gets up out of bed at the second knock. Blinking, unseeing in the darkness of his room as he crosses the floor (aided by it's perpetual state of cleanliness), so that as Lilli tests the knob and finds it open, the brother she'd called draws the door open fully, Eyes narrowed, and unruly hair mussed. "Lilli? Is something wrong?" First instinct.
Lillianne blinks and jumps back, her mouth opening and closing in mute agitation before she runs fingers through her own hair, smoothing the fly aways caused by a sleepless night. "I... I couldn't sleep," she answers in a whisper, wincing against even that sound in the otherwise silent hall. She fidgets and fingers the edge of the light robe she'd thrown over her pajamas.
Chrome is wearing his usual sleeping attire: sweatpants. Blinking a moment, it takes a couple seconds of mute staring before he opens the door fully, and mutters, "Come on in," before walking back into the dark room, and turning on a light, eyes clenched closed against the sudden brightness.
Lillianne edges in and slides along the wall, just far enough that the door can shut behind her. She too squints in the light, ducking her head to shade her eyes. Light reveals a multitude of sins? Is that how the saying goes? No matter. Light /does/ reveal a bit of wanness and darkening circles under her eyes. "Uh..." Okay, that's helpful. "Sorry for waking you..."
Chrome shuffles across the floor to draw up a chair in front of his cot, which he takes himself. Gesturing to the cot, and it's nice warm blankets, (it wouldnt do at all, if he was tempted to doze back to sleep while Lilli was talking) "Don't worry about it," he mumbles, shaking his head to clear the cobwebs, and clearing his throat before looking back at Lilli and stating, "Sit down, and tell me why you can't sleep." Part of a big brother's job, this.
I doubt he'll have that trouble once Lilli confesses, so she just shakes her head mutely at the invitation and hugs her wall. Closer to the door this, see? She inhales and lets the breath out slowly. "IcalledPaigean'toldher IwasPadriag'sgirlfriend so'sIcouldfindoutabouther andIthinkIscaredher causeshehungupreallyquick," she blurts out, bunching her shoulders up to her ears and bracing.
Chrome says, "Oh," he notes idly, looking back to the vacant cot and deciding whether he should take that seat himself- "Wait, what?" It took him a moment to sift through the speed of Lilli's speech, and even then.. Eyes snap back to Lilli quickly-like a dash of cold water, he's quite awake now. A moment of nothing, then he looks at the wall past his cot and raises a hand to pinch the briodge of his nose. "You called Paige," he repeats quietly waiting for confirmation, as he ticks through the list of possabilities: he *did* delete the call record.. Padraig could have called his provider and gotten the number, he supposes. It's too soon for him to have looked over a statement, and gotten it that way..Where did he make a mistake? "Please sit down, Lilli. This may take a while."
Lillianne shakes her head again, moving farther along the wall from him, though she does look up. "I... Padraig told me. How come..." No, she's going there. She shifts and stuffs her hands deep into her robe's pockets. "He had her number. Said she'd called him. So... I called /her/."
"I should have told her not to call back," Justin mutters under his breath. So she talked to Padraig.. he'll be hearing about *that* later. A drawn breath, still not looking at Lilli. "What makes you think you scared her?" he queries evenly.
"Cause she kind've got flustered and hung up. I sort of... pretended..." The words drag out so very unwillingly. "To be Padraig's girlfriend, callin' about finding a strange number."
