I've finally given in, too.

1.) Brendan's early life was actually relatively normal, nothing too interesting really going on up until he found out that he was a mutant...around the age of 18. After that, he was of course treated differently in school, up until the point where he felt like he had to leave. That's when he went to New York...he had heard something about a school for people like him, so he figured he'd go and look for it.
Well, he never ended up finding it of course, and he ended up living by himself in Central Park...for about six years. During that time his hatred of humans grew due to various bad things he witnessed while in the park...also from his own experiences with how people treated him whenever he asked for help. Also during this time he had met Averillix, and they became best friends cause she occasionally helped him out (which explains their relationship at the moment.) :)
He had also searched out Sabella sometime within this time period, and after talking with her a couple of times and becoming her 'go-fer', she took him to the Island (after branding him as hers, of course. ;))
2)Yes, he is more than content with being in the Brotherhood...he feels it's the best decision he ever made. He -has- felt occasional pangs of doubt due to the Aves situation, but Sabella recently remedied that with her own little brain treatment, and now he's fine. The only difference he wants is to be with Aves somehow...but otherwise he is about as loyal to the cause, if not moreso, than anyone else on the island. He just wants to -do- something to help instead of just sitting around all the time, being all brood-ish and whatnot. ;)
