About the Author Checkpoint

May 17, 2012 00:39

We've already gotten a few questions about this so to clear up some things and let everyone know what's coming up.

The Author checkpoint IS mandatory. We DO NOT require you to send us any of your story or have a certain percent done at this point. Author's drafts are due June 20th, 2012 and at the time turned in must be 80% done and 4,000 words ( Read more... )

Um, is this the part where we can sort of ask about where in the posting schedules we can go? It's just that I won't be able to post in the first week or so, for kind of important reasons. I can discuss it in an email?

Dropping in as a mod for a second, but yeah, email is better. I don't know when either official mod will be here so, that's easier.

OH THANK GOODNESS. I totally thought the 80% draft was due next week, and was well on my way to panicking. Thanks for the clarification!

Oh my god, thank you.. I was worried for a moment. Just a short question, once we have it completely finished do we send it to you for posting or do we do this ourselves (if yes will there be a schedule when each of us have to post?).

Authors will be posting the stories themselves (to the journal/archive of their choice). When fic drafts are due we will ask the days you can't post during the posting period and work the posting schedule around that, so authors will have an assigned posting date but we'll do our best to make sure all dates work for authors and artists.

Ahaha, I also totally thought that the checkpoint next week was for the 80% draft. On the bright side, I'm there. >_> ^_^;;

Ohh I am going to look at this has a definite bright side, maybe because so many people thought 80% was due soon it got them to write faster and there will be fewer drop outs

Good luck on writing!

Aha, I was another of the ones who thought 80% was due for the checkpoint. Maybe the rules are unclear? Many a freak-out might have been avoided XD
I have a question, how do we check-in? Do we send an email explaining at which point of the story we are, how much progress we've done?

Seconding your question -- this is my first bang so I'm not sure how the check-in process works.

Check ins will be following the format at the Merlin Reverse Bang and are mainly for us to make sure authors and artists are in contact and that authors are on track, it gives us a chance to see early on if we have authors not responding and assign pinch hitters with enough time to write.

I saw a lot of people thinking that and checked the FAQ and couldn't understand where they got that from lol (I reread it a few time and it just says the 80% when fic drafts are due). I think possibly one person thought it and past it along and it became common knowledge.
