Such Is Life

Oh she walks home when it’s raining,
yeah ’cause she don’ have a car,
and she doesn’t want him to know she’s crying.
And I sit at home and wait and worry,
that she makes it back okay,
’cause I know he ain’t stayin’ up for her.

But don’t get me wrong,
It’s not his place to stay up late,
’Cause he’s already got his darlin’
Falling asleep in his arms tonight.
But she keeps lettin’ her heart linger,
Hopin’ the friction will ignite old sparks,
But the rain just keeps on smotherin’ the fire.

Oh I wonder,
does she even know I’m there?
Outstretched hands and open arms,
does she even know I care?
Oh and she wonders,
does he even know she’s there?
Clouded eyes and pouted lips,
I guess life is never fair.

Oh she’s the cause of my insomnia,
and of this new inspiration.
But her mind remains on him,
and I can’t offer no compensation.
Oh and he’s the cause of her hysteria,
and her constant aggravation.
Although his heart is spoken for,
she still can’t help but love him.

Oh I walk home when it’s raining,
yea ‘cause I don’t have a car,
but it ain’t no secret that I’m cryin’

We all keep racin’ in this vicious circle,
where no one ever wins,
all of us still chasin’ the one that got away.
But maybe one day you’ll stop to catch your breath,
And darlin’ that’s the day I’ll be catchin’ up to you.
