I looked at his sleeping body longingly. Saga had crashed at my apartment almost immediately when we arrived. It was raining, and he had gotten stuck in the rain, so I picked him up and made him change and dry off here, then he fell asleep.
“Hey,” I heard him say. I turned around and expected him to be looking at me, but he wasn’t. I walked over to him, quickly realizing he was still asleep. I giggled and started to leave, but he started talking again.
“I’m cold.” He mumbled. I grabbed a blanket off the floor and approached him.
“Saga-chan,” I said gently. “Are you awake?”
He didn’t reply, so I crawled onto the bed and inspected his face.
He was definitely asleep, soft lips slightly parted. I brushed hair out of his eyes and just looked at him. I planted a soft kiss on his lips. I couldn’t help myself, he’s so beautiful.
I’ve wanted him for so long, and he doesn’t even know.
He plays along with my advances, maybe he’s naïve, but I’ve hoped for something more than friendship, more than fanservice, more than a relationship.
I just want him, and all he has to offer.
I stroke his hair softly, wondering what it would be like to have this everyday.
Maybe it’s the rain, rain always makes people different. Today I felt brave when I saw him on the street, with no umbrella, t-shirt and jeans soaked through.
I thought, “Today’s the day! He’ll be mine.”
But I haven’t done anything yet, except watch him.
I was startled when I saw him watching back. “Hi handsome,” he said in a sleepy voice, smiling.
“Saga,” I muttered. I had to tell him, I need to tell him.
“Are you hungry?” Damn. He nodded slowly, and something flashed through his eyes before he smiled again.
“Nao,” he said softly as I was leaving the room. “Nao, what do you think about me? Honestly?” Saga looked at me with pleading eyes. My heart swelled up, and I had trouble breathing.
“You’re very good-looking, Saga.” I said quietly. “You play bass quite well, and the fans like you a lot. You’re one of my closest friends. I love you.” I slammed my hand over my mouth.
Saga stared at me, and if I hadn’t run from the room, I would have seen the small smile spreading across his face.
I threw myself into the bathroom, eyes watering dangerously.
I heard a knock, and Saga’s muffled voice.
“Nao, open the door. We need to talk about this.”
The tears came, at those words. We need to talk. Spoken with conviction and desperation. He doesn’t want me. I should have known. The rain outside started falling harder, making me smile a little. At least something was sad for me.
I looked up when the door clicked open, and Saga held up a pin guiltily.
“I meant it platonically.” I said mechanically. Saga looked thoughtfully at me.
“I don’t believe you.” He said simply, smiling his ‘I’m Saga, bow down to me’ smile-smirk.
“It doesn’t matter, really, Saga. I… It’s the rain.” I finished weakly.
“Rain makes people show their true colors. You see and experience things that only happen when it rains. Like rainbows, puddles, the perfect way water droplets form on flowers. The air is clearer. I love you too, Nao.” Saga looked down at the floor.
I smiled up at him.
“Saga, can I kiss you?” He nodded, and pulled me into his arms.
The kiss was everything I would expect from a first kiss on a rainy day. It was sweet, delicate, and new.
Saga pulled me back into my bedroom and we curled up together on the bed, watching the rain fall with our fingers intertwined.
