Five percent nation

Well, I guess I'm pretty settled in here. Things are good other than a total lack of stuff to do in the evenings and my "Personal Jesus"-loving neighbor. It's okay, since we all have to move to another dorm on Monday.

Work is pretty cool in that I have an "office" of sorts in TPL 301 and I am free to come and go as I please (for now, anyway). The first week has consisted of reading some rather high-level astrophysics material that sorely makes me wish I had already taken Quantum I. Next week we start actual work with the other summer students and the professor. I think I'm going to hang around here this weekend and struggle to comprehend thermal equilibrium and metastable electron decay of gaseous nebulae before things get into full swing on Monday.

I found out the whole bathroom-gender-spinner is pretty much how every dorm at Williams does things. Weird, huh? That aside, of course, the people here have mostly been very nice and accommodating (students and adults). Every so often I'll see what is obviously an admissions tour group meandering by and realize that they all probably assume I'm a student. It's weird to think about that. Maybe I better start wearing my Wesleyan t-shirts to allay any such assumptions that I'm a student here.

One random annoying thing: my cellphone gets no reception here. At all. Unless I stand in very specific spots, and even then the probability of getting reception is probably less than the probability of [He II] recombination with an electron of energy hv = 15.2 eV. So in conclusion, if you call me I will probably not be able to answer.

If you'd like to write to me or send me whatever, here is my address:
