I got a raft of papers from Apple via Fedex. It's horrible, there are like 20 things I have to fill out and most of them, as far as I can tell, are pretty much the same thing. Aie. I hope this is worth it.
WesMaps 05/06 is up, officially, at
http://www.wesleyan.edu/wesmaps/. As it has become the fad to post one's potential classes, I will oblige.
I must take the following classes for my majors; this is non-negotiable:
ASTR 221 - Galactic Astronomy (Johnston) - MW 2:40p-4:00p
PHYS 213 - Waves and Oscillations (Starr) - TR 2:40p-4:00p
MATH 221 - Vectors and Matrices (Bonfert-Taylor) - MWF 9:00a-9:50a
Commentary: All these profs are supposed to be good. I've had KVJ before and she is excellent. I also have it on record from reliable sources that Starr and Bonfert-Taylor are good, though I've had neither of them in the past. There's another section of V&M that meets at 11:00a, but it's taught by Scowcroft, and I've been told by multiple people that I should him avoid at all costs. I'm definitely okay with taking a 9:00 class over an 11:00 if it means having a better prof.
I fulfilled all the GenEd expectations, stage I and II, and there are no other major requirements I should be taking, so I have one class completely for fun. I've made a short list of ones I might want to take, roughly in order of preference:
RELI 221 - Islam and Muslim Cultures (Gottschalk) - MW 11:00a-12:20p
GOVT 342 - Political Representation (Schwartz) - MW 1:10p-2:30p
HIST 217 - African History Before 1870 (Semley) - MWF 10:00a-10:50a
HEBR 101 - Elementary Hebrew (Staff) - MWF 10:00a-10:50a
HIST 247 - Major Issues in Jewish History (Teter) - MW 1:10p-2:30p
ANTH 266 - Maya Peoples and Cultures (Breglia) - TR 1:10p-2:30p
FRST 226 - Francophone Uses of America (LeServot) - MW 11:00a-12:20p
Commentary: I loved Gottschalk and would gladly take another class with him. I'm thinking another religion class (HIST 247 is cross-listed religion) because I just found it really interesting albeit not something I'd want to major in. Hebrew is on there because I really enjoyed the process of learning a language, but I'm getting tired of French classes because the literature and culture just isn't that fascinating to me. I don't want to pick up another Romance language, Arabic meets too early, and all the other languages are 1.5 credit ampersand courses that require way too much commitment for a lower-priority class. Also the usual spattering of random gov. and history classes that sounded good have been included.
