Writer's Block: The Beatles
Nothing will ever, EVER compare to The Beatles. The four men who made up The Beatles are the closest things to any kind of living God the world has come across. (Although some could argue that Richard Starkey (aka Ringo Starr) didn't have a lot to do with it).
Anyway, to answer the question....
The core of pop music, well that depends what you consider to be pop music...
The Beatles would never be considered "pop" by today's standards. And I am glad of that.
I guess, in my opinion, The Beatles are still the core of pop music.
