Well, I *kind of* have a job.  I worked 9 hours yesterday and 9 more today; and it's hard, shitty work.  It's for a small but growing company that refurbishes bus plugs and ducts, tap boxes, transformers, panel switches, and circuit breakers.  The company started up last year, and my friend Jon has been there nearly since inception.  On Friday they just asked him if he knew anybody who wanted to make some extra money and he immediately thought of me.  Basically, I'm just extra help for the next four weeks, but if the company continues to get large orders, they may want to keep me on board.  It's just the two owners and Jon working there as of now, and it's been busier than ever.  Jon also started out as "extra help."  In all honesty, I'm hoping to get back into the factory (and ASAP) because this is rough work and I HATE the 8am starting time.

Anyhow, the company buys used and broken parts and units from contractors who break down closed warehouses and factories.  Then they break down and sort everything by part (shells over here, circuits there, fuses somewhere else etc.), and go from there.  They've been having me scrub down and sand the bus plug shells in preparation for painting.  Most of them are full of grease, grime, and stickers, so I've been all up on them with a map gas torch, steel wool, a putty knife, lots 'o rags, leather gloves, WD40, and Simple Green cleaner.  Oh, and upper body muscle!  Man, am I sore. Today I escaped with no steel wool splinters which was nice, but I wasn't as lucky yesterday.  I removed one from my palm and one from under my thumb nail, both on my left hand.  The nail incident wasn't so pretty, but at least it's out.

The guys who own the place are a little odd, but nice.  They bought and brought Jon and me lunch from Jimmy John's yesterday.  They also pay us for the 9 hours we work each day plus time and a half after 40.  Overall, I hate it.  But it's good money that I desperately need, so I'm going to put up with it until I figure out what's going on with the factory, or line something else up.
