Marissa was wandering down the corridor on her way to the bathroom when she saw a dim light coming out from under the kitchen door.

Who was awake at this time of the night? Marissa had briefly checked the time on her alarm clock and as far as she remembered it was way past 3am.

She stopped and quietly opened the kitchen door, peering inside.

“Lindsay?” she asked as she recognized the black haired girl. “What are you doing here?”

Lindsay startled at the sound of Marissa´s voice and almost dropped the glass of water she was holding in her hands.

“God Marissa!” she breathed out as she turned around. “Are you trying to scare me to death?”

Marissa gave her an apologetic look and walked further into the room.

“Sorry, I was just surprised to find someone here at this time of the night. Shouldn´t you be sleeping?”

Lindsay shrugged her shoulders. “Well you aren´t sleeping either.” She then continued while putting her glass down. Both girls had never really been best friends, even though Lindsay thought that there was something about Marissa. She was beautiful and talented, but Lindsay was trying so hard not to fall in love with people here and for some reason this was something that especially concerned Marissa.

She could deal with Alex leaving, Samuel and even Hannah, but just the thought of Marissa leaving was making her feel sick.

“Well, I was just about to go to the bathroom.” Marissa said, sensing that Lindsay was not really in a good mood.

I was just trying to be friendly. she thought, shaking her head slightly. Lindsay was a lovely girl, but she always behaved strangely around Marissa. While she was cuddling with the boys and giggling with Hannah, Lindsay had never even hugged her, and group hugs were not something that Marissa counted. She could never tell if it was about her, and if, what she was doing wrong.

Marissa shook her head again as she turned around and was already half way out the door, when she heard Lindsay´s voice.

“Marissa.” It was just her name, she was called by that on a daily basis, but still, coming from Lindsay it made her smile and she turned around.

The black haired girl was leaning against the counter and it seemed like she was actually struggling to look at Marissa.

“Are you ok?” Marissa asked and Lindsay just shrugged her shoulders helplessly.

“I don´t…I don´t know. I can´t sleep. I´m so nervous because of the video shoot tomorrow. I mean it´s exciting to get slushied but at the same I´m scared to…”

“…do something wrong?” Marissa finished the sentence and Lindsay looked up, meeting the other girl´s eyes.

How does she…?

“I´ve had my session with David, and it´s not easy to get slushied and stay in character. But you are an amazing actress Lindsay, you´re the best out of all of us. You don´t have to worry.”

Lindsay was stunned by the compliment and the honesty that was reflecting in Marissa´s eyes. Did she really believe in her that much? And when did she come that close?

Lindsay fought the urge to lean back more over the counter.

“You´ll be fine, ok?” Marissa repeated and Lindsay found herself nodding. “Hey…hey don´t cry.”

Cry? Lindsay raised a hand to her face and felt the tears that were leaving wet streaks on her cheeks. Why was she crying?

Before she could even do anything about it, Lindsay felt Marissa´s arms around her and she was leaning her head against the other girls shoulder.

Marissa smelled of the vanilla shampoo she was using and Lindsay felt herself relax into the hug.

“We´ll be fine, ok? Lindsay, I promise.” Marissa whispered again and again and Lindsay nodded.

“We´ll be fine.” She murmured into Marissa´s shoulder and wrapped her arms around the auburn haired girl´s waist to pull her closer. “We´ll be fine.”
