Yo! Ok, so I know I haven't updated as frequently as I used to. And no, it's not just because there's nothing of interest to update on XD
Anyways, I figured that I should explain some things...
There are updates after this so you can just scroll down and ignore this if you want. It's kind of a long story so I'm gonna try to make this short.

Reading up on rings from the 19th century, apparently rings with rubies, emeralds and sapphires (as well as other precious gems) were more sought after for engagement rings. They used diamonds rather as accents as diamonds were being found left and right in South Africa. Platinum was also becoming more popular around circa 1880s up until WWII where it was banned for all but war use. It's a bit tricky to find adequate sites with pictures of engagement rings, hmm...
Victorian era, Chicago... did it say where Edward's human family came from?
Check out this one: http://www.thethreegraces.net/system/item/6674/7151_featured.jpg Pretty fancy, eh? Not what I imagined as Bella's ring (then again, I didn't give it much thought in the first place *fails as a fangirl* but it's more in the direction on what I thought the jewellery to be back then.)
Not the best picture, but this one is getting closer: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v255/LadyDea/Victorian.jpg
I like this one best, not so much the gold (white gold would be nicer): http://calabashgold.com/r.5026.0001.jpg
I'm going to be looking at rings all day now! XD

http://www.morelledavidsonjewellery.com/res/Default/victdiaring.jpg I'm not sure if those are diamonds or pearls, but this one is my new favourite.
Okay, no more! *closes google and slaps self*

I like the simpler ones as well! I think that might be diamond (in the last one that's your new fave)...I think XD
Simple yet elegant ones are more my type, *sigh* I guess we also have SteMey to blame for her....fashion sense...not only in the ring but the clothes as well...OH DEAR GOD! *facepalm*
LMAO! I remember spending two days looking for rings that might be Bella's ring. I swear my eyes were shining from refelecting the diamonds and other various gems that I was looking at! XD
I don't remember any specifications of Edward's family's background....rubies and emeralds...that makes sense. *nods*
