I am confused on how I feel about this season of Friday Night Lights. On the one hand, I love and still enjoy watching these characters. Then there is the other hand where I feel the stories for these characters are so unfocused and not just a little boring and who gives a fuck
Now I am the first person who argues this show is about more than football. It is about more than football, but that more is intrinsically entwined with football. I hate every time Julie is on the screen. First off, her character is getting far too much story time and second it's not good story. First, we have to suffer through her lame ass crush on the Swede. Then we have to put up with her fucking bitching and moaning and being bratty spoiled brat girl. I mean, you dumped your boyfriend because you wanted someone else, so there is no sympathy now that you want him again. Fine whatever, but if they start a storyline with Julie and her fucking journalism teacher, this show officially has problems. And what is up with this show hooking up high school kids with adults? Julie/teacher, Matt/maid, last year Tim/neighbor. Are adults in Texas so pathetic they hook up with annoying high school kids?
The one storyline I really like this season is the juvie kid. I think that story has a lot of potential to explore the affect football has on people's lives in this town, for good and bad, and isn't that what this show is supposed to be about? I sure as hell didn't sign up for whinging high school girls with immature crushes on boys in bands and their high school teachers. I also am oddly fascinated by Lyla's storyline this season. Tim's storyline is good too as is Smash's. Matt needs a storyline that does not have him making out with the fucking maid. I thought the early Smash/Matt tension had a lot of potential but they dropped that right quick. There is so much goodness in this show that is just getting bogged down by the few bad bits.
Another problem with this season ... not enough Coach Taylor. Seriously, he is the heart of this show and he's been pretty absent. But really, the show isn't in that bad of shape. They just need to push Julie back in the background where she belongs, end the Landry killed a guy plot, and refocus on football and how it effects people's lives.
My roommate is a total reality show junkie and I've sort of turned into one too. I now watch I Love New York, The Biggest Loser, Kid Nation, The Amazing Race, and ANTM again. The only scripted shows I watch anymore are Friday Night Lights and Bones. Occasionally, I will catch up online with Brothers and Sisters and Grey's, but I'm weeks and weeks behind on those and apparently really don't care either.
Yeah, I have a draft of a paper due tomorrow, that I haven't started and I really can't be assed to start now either. I'll do it eventually. Yeah. But I am also leaving tomorrow night for California. I am going home for a week for Thanksgiving. It's going to be so nice. I really love going home for short holidays.
