I should never make promises I know I'll never keep. I always have the best intentions, but promising I will do things that require discipline and consistency rarely will happen. So when I said I planned to post more, I really wanted to but it was so not going to happen.
1. Got a new temp gig that I hate and the pay is shit; however, I do get paid more than the two white guys at work who do the same job as me. Also, the pay is only shit for someone with 200K in educational debt. It's actually a great salary for the amount of effort and time it requires.
2. Saw the Decemberists last night. Mediocre show. The energy was way less than the last time I saw them. I blame the set list. While songs from the new album are expected, the non The King is Dead songs chosen were just weird and didn't have energy to get the crowd into it. Also hurts that generally LA crowds are lame anyway. Still I blame the set list.
3. Saw Dashboard last month. Now that is a man who knows how to give the audience what they want. From the go you're just totally into it. Great show.
4. I didn't think I was going to like it, but I am really really loving Shameless. Having seen the British series (not the whole series but a bit of it) and seeing the pilot pretty much ape the first episode of the British series I was not optimistic. I mean, I really don't get the point of remaking something when the only thing you change is actors and location. And let's face it, the British series is always going to have had James McAvoy as Steve, so you automatically lose out on casting comparisons. But I warmed to the series quickly and pretty much adore it at this point.
5. Big Love this season - meh. I think I always stuck with this show because I always thought at the end at least one of the wives would leave. Or Nicki would go batshit and start killing people. Now, I don't think that is going to happen and the whole series is leading up to trying to make the point that polygamy is completely and utterly natural and okay. In some pre-season interview thing, Bill Paxson even says he thinks the audience is rooting for the family to survive and I guess I'm not the normal audience member because I'm rooting for the women to tell Bill to fuck off and get the fuck out with his egotistical, self centered, controlling bullshit. Barb had it right when she said he does all this for him and not for his family at all. His family is so unhappy and is always unhappy, but you know Bill gets to fuck 3 women and exert control over them. I wouldn't mind the show ending with Bill dropping dead.
6. I am far more interested in Caroline/Tyler/Matt than I am in anything having to do with Elena/Stephen/Damon though Damon/Alaric, as always, amuses. Jeremy/Bonnie is stupid too. How do you go from Anna to dumbass Bonnie? Major downgrade. I also feel this show is unfortunately heading into the same traps that dragged down Buffy ... the vampire questioning his morality you know I am bad I need to kill, but I love the girl so I need to be good, but I am bad so I have to kill to show the girl I am not changing just for her ... please do not drag me down that road again. It leads only to lameness. Also, they're starting to do the all powerful witch that can fix everything shit. Still enjoy the hell out of the show.
7. But what I am enjoying more than VD, Spartacus. There is something just so smart and fresh about the twists and turns in this show. Yeah, it's got its somewhat cheesy and gratuitous parts including bad acting, but the storytelling is kind of epic and at the end of the day it is all about story for me in everything I watch.
8. I was unimpressed with The Social Network. I'll leave it at that.
9. Confession - I am sort of kind of totally in love with the movie Leap Year. I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago and have watched it half a dozen times since. I'm not a huge fan of romantic comedies, and usually rake them over the coals because they suck, but it's not the genre per say that sucks, but them movies in it. A good damn romantic comedy is amazing. Not that I think Leap Year is amazing. What it does have though is most of the elements that make a great romantic comedy. I keep it out of great because it's premise is sort of lame and there are so many predictable, cliche moments, but the actors make these moments cute. And sometimes I just want cute. Amy Adams is cute, the guy was cute, they had cute chemistry and the movie was cute. Sometimes all you need is cute.
10. Recommend me something ... tv show, book, movie, music, food, shoes, whatever ....
