I don't know what it is about me that makes me so ripe for getting ripped off. Is it my sparkling personality, my sharp wit, or it might be the fact that instead of going after people who steal from me, I just bitch, moan, and yes, put my little fists on my hips?
I've had stories, icons, graphics, and now my whole freaking roleplay chatroom concept stolen from me.
So there's this punk, we'll call him A (A for asshole really). He used to play in my roleplaying room back when. (I've had the room for 5 years so it's hard to keep track when someone comes and goes.) Nobody liked him because he managed to take all his canon chars and turn them into damsels in distress or whiny little emo girls. Which, not their personalities. And he couldn't quit get the whole panfandom aspect of the room. He left.
Apparently, he wasn't very well liked among the entire chat service either, which I learned from talking to other admins. The same sort of thing. Always playing the whiny damsel, always wanting to just RP out relationships, couldn't play well with others, etc.
A few months later, I'm checking the roleplaying site portal (it lists all the roleplaying chats with descriptions) and I see one that looks new and shiny so I check it. Lo and behold, there are OUR icons, OUR banner, OUR map (which was something I made in Paint in literally 10 minutes flat). I contacted the site admin and this little assrat had the balls to act like how dare I call him out and his friend made these. He went on and on about how he was being attacked and this was all my fault, they were his things. Of course, I had my own webserver, showed the upload dates, which were pre-his room by at least a year if I remember.
He then took the format and graphics from a Harry Potter community, right down to stealing their rules word for word. But the admin of that room didn't feel like bringing it to the site admin's attention so A got away scotfree with his theft.
Then he came back to our room for a bit, playing the same canon chars, in the same manner. When he called out one of our players, berating them, and putting them to tears, I asked him to stop acting like an admin. He stomped his foot, took his toys, and left. Hallejuah, I thought.
He's stolen a few other rooms' content since then. Supernatural room, a BTVS room, a BTVS/SPN room, a Twilight room, a Smallville room, a Gossip Girl room. He made a lot of rooms, stealing content and then abandoning them. Or he would steal from his stolen materials like reusing rooms or icons. I figured we were safe.
About a year ago, I had a new player register, called D (name changed to protect the retarded). Of course, the IP for D was the same as A. The playing style was the same. D registered for the same characters A used to play, used the same avatars for originals. Naturally A was D and not doing a good job of hiding it. A let several players think that he was now a she named D. Until I burst that bubble. He threw a tantrum, said everyone hated him and left. I've caught him lurking like oh, I don't know EVERY SINGLE FREAKING NIGHT since then.
Then out of the blue, he starts plugging this new room of his. It's hidden, meaning it's off the roleplaying portal and I can see why. I'm reading the room description and wow, it looks totally familiar. That's because IT'S MY FREAKING DESCRIPTION WITH THE TOWN NAME AND STATE CHANGED! The basic idea, while, admittedly, is nothing new but still, he only changed two things.
It's just a matter of time before I know he yanks our graphics and icons again. Little asshole. And the thing is, he changed just enough of our room description that I don't think the site admin will go after him again. The site admin is all about having different chats with the same theme (they had like 15 HP chats at one time). But if someone steals graphics or art, the site admin will crack down.
But I swear to Jebus that as soon as I find something really solid, like graphics, I'm going to nail his ass right to the freaking wall. I've had my chat for five years, with steady traffic, a good group of players. And I sure as hell am not going to sit back and let some little fucker steal our hard work.
I'm just glad I've got my super spy secret weapon. Kisses to The Bourne Identity. *winks*
