Top 5 'Verse Yahoo RPGs
Oh yes, yet another buffyversetop5 rec list. I am starting to get a bit addicted to these. LOL
I figured that this might be something that people weren't familiar with and when I saw the RPG tag in the tag list, it inspired me. (I use the tag list...a lot.) Not sure how many people are familiar with RPGs (Role playing games) but the 'verse has some of the most active and longest running games, especially on Yahoo. These are PBeM more so than a message board, chat, or communities settings.
So I picked out five great ones that I play in that have strong characterization, great voices, fabulous plots, and just really fun people. They are great to join if you are into RPing or if you just want to lurk to see great stories unfold.
I am starting off with the big momma of them all...
1. Hellmouth Alliance: In Character (IC) Group & Out of Character (OOC) Group: HA, as it is affectionately called by its members, was started in 2001. It picked up at the end of The Gift and Angel S2. Over the years, it has grown into somewhat of an institution among Yahoo RPers. Amanda is the sole mod of the group, the genius behind some truly amazing plotlines. Right now, there are so many plotlines going on, I couldn't even begin to summarize them all. :) The players are just amazing people too and after a year of playing there, I can say I have made some lifelong friends.
2. Buffy Resurrection: In Character (IC) Group & Out of Character (OOC) Group: BR, again, with the abbreviations, is a group that I took over modding responsibilities for a few months ago. It was 2006 and has been steadily moving every since. This group completely ignores Angel S5 and instead prefers to give the job of fixing Connor over to Willow. Cordy is still comatose and Buffy is kicking ass and taking names in New Orleans. Spike is back too, with no idea how he managed to get there.
3. Angel Unlimited: In Character (IC) Group & Out of Character (OOC) Group: AU is a very small but loyal group. It takes place as an AU, picking up after Waiting In the Wings. Cordelia and Wesley were in a car accident on their way back from the ballet, so the Connor kidnapping and Wes' betrayal never occured. It is an Angel only RP that has been going strong for 8 months now with no signs of slowing.
4. Cleveland Rocks!: In Character (IC) Group: CR is another one that is small but active. This picks up after the end of Buffy and Angel and one year later, in 2005. Faith has set up a Slayer Academy near the newest Hellmouth and called in for reinforcements. However, the big bads in this are Cordelia and Anya, brought back from the dead by Wolfram and Hart with altered memories.
5. What A Wonderful World: In Character (IC) Group & Out of Character (OOC) Group: WAWW (we really do like our abbr. here!) is set right after the final battle with Wolfram and Hart in Angel. The only survivors were Angel and Faith, who joined the fight at the last moment. In a rash decision on his part, Angel found a way to bring Cordelia back, setting events into motion. Now, everyone is coming back from the dead but they are coming back wrong. Spike is male Slayer. Anya can't remember who she is. Darla is human with a soul. Just to point out a few. They have been going since 2005 and show no signs of stopping.
BONUS! And because it is really hard to find five great chatroom RPGs for the 'verses, I thought I would tack one onto the end of this post. St. Solanus is actually a panfandom chatroom that always has some Buffy and Angel plot going on. Taking place in a fictional town, the Scoobies and the Fang Gang found a new Hellmouth in the small California city. Now it's business as...well, I guess unusual as they fight and fall in love and have all those whacky adventures that us fans could never get enough of.
