Yeah. So I felt bad about not posting anything for like a million years. I'm still kind of stuck on the latest Zatara Diaries, unfortunately. The whole note-taking thing is getting on my nerves, and Darling Zachary keeps getting sidetracked into talking about Zatanna's love life and the nature of bunnies or what have you. Also, I keep forgetting to bring my notebook with me. But hey! This requires little-to-no work.

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

(“I was worried you were gonna come here as some wrinkly old guy,” he will say. “With, like grandkids and shit.” And then Mello will laugh a weird, relieved kind of laugh, decidedly un-Mello, and he will ask, “Really?” And Matt will say “No.”)

--Matt/Mello afterlife fic.

Tracy Thirteen was trying to look on the bright side. Yes, it was a ragtag team, but it was her ragtag team, and the Shadowpact was supposed to be a ragtag team, anyway.

--Intro to the Shadowpact 2.5, discarded because I couldn't figure out what to call Secret.

“The Clean Air Act? Who the hell passed the Clean Air Act?” wailed Pollution.

--Good Omens, in which the Horsepersons escape from the collective subconscious.

Using the twin powers of guilt (Danny) and latkes (everyone besides Danny), Eddie had managed to convince the members of the previous Shadowpact to join them for the first annual Shadowpact holiday party. He’d also managed to convince his Shadowpact to have the first annual Shadowpact holiday party, which basically meant he had to buy up all the frozen latkes in the store. It also meant Zachary spent most of the afternoon defending his magnificent, color-coordinated Christmas tree from Greta, who wanted to put some candy canes on it, and Tim hung up nearly twenty wreaths in odd locations before anyone realized what he was doing. Poor Tracy had to go and fetch Jaime once she remembered he had absolutely no way of finding the Oblivion. Meanwhile, Eddie had cooked more than half the latkes before he realized he had nothing else to eat. Fortunately, Anita took pity on him and made something fantastic out of chicken, and Zachary conjured up the rest. The guests arrived at 8:00, with presents and cookies (Rory) in tow.

“I like what you’ve done with the place,” said Jimmy, looking around. “Very nice.”

“You work here,” said Eddie. “I saw you yesterday.”

“You didn’t have the decorations up yesterday,” he said.

“Where do you want these?” asked Rory.

“Bar’s fine,” said Eddie.

“Hey! Glad you could make it!” said Tracy as she entered the main room.

“‘Course,” shrugged Danny. “Our pleasure.”

She smiled and glanced over at Jaime, who was hovering by the bar, his plate piled high with latkes.

“These are delicious!” he called, his mouth full. “Why is there applesauce?”

“Should he really be eating so many of those?” she asked Eddie.

“We’ve got more in the kitchen,” he shrugged. Then, to Jaime, “Some people like them with applesauce.”

The guests began to disperse, mingling awkwardly with the rest of the team. Detective Chimp appeared to be lecturing Greta about something, and Rory had struck up a conversation with Jaime by the latkes. Eve wandered over to Zachary, who was still sitting protectively by his beloved creation. Eddie stopped for a little while to listen in.

“Nice tree,” she said. “Very…white.”

“Thanks,” he grinned. “I thought about using one of those trees with white needles, but I think the green provides a nice contrast.”

‘Uh-huh,” she said. “You’re Zatanna’s kid, aren’t you?”

His smile disappeared.

“Cousin,” he said coolly. “We’re cousins.”

“Oh, right then,” she smiled awkwardly. “Um. Zachary, right?”

“Yes,” he said. “And you’d be Eve Eden, I presume.”

“That’s me,” said Eve. “So…you and Eddie, huh?”

Eddie laughed and made his way down to the bar, where everyone else was gathered around and chatting.

“How’s the cauldron?” asked June.

“It’s great,” said Tracy. “Thanks for letting us use it, by the way.”

“No problem,” said June. “It would’ve just been sitting there, otherwise.”

“Yeah, well, we really appreciate it,” said Tracy.

“Good job on the latkes, Eddie,” said Rory, giving him the thumbs up.

“You made these?” asked Jaime, awed.

“He put them in the oven,” said Anita. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

“Anita here made the chicken,” said Eddie graciously. “You should try it, it’s fantastic.”

“Just my dad’s old recipe,” she said modestly. “He taught it to me when I was fourteen.”

“Speaking of which, where are your, uh,” Eddie paused. “Parents?”

“Uncle Ish is watching them,” she said. “He gets a little freaked out, but he’s a great babysitter.”

“This is great, Anita,” said Jaime. “Kinda spicy.”

“Kinda?” said Tim, chugging down a glass of water. “Practically burned my mouth off!”

“I thought you Englishmen were all about the curry,” said Detective Chimp.

“Tim has very sensitive taste buds,” said Greta. “He should really know better.”

“Hey, it’s good,” said Tim.

“Thanks,” Anita beamed.

“Anyone up for cocktails?” asked Jimmy from behind the bar.

“Please,” said Zachary, fiddling with his collar. Eddie resisted the urge to hug him, knowing as he did the perils of acknowledging his embarrassment. “Belvedere on the rocks.”

“What’s up with him?” whispered Jaime.

“I think Eve’s been hanging out with Zatanna,” Eddie whispered back.

“Cabernet, please,” said Tracy.

“Coming right up,” said Jimmy. “Anyone else?”

“I’m good,” said Eddie. “You guys ready for dessert?”

“In a minute,” said Jaime. “I’ve gotta finish this latke.”

“You do that,” said Eddie. “I’ll go get the stuff.”

--Because I love you and because it wasn't going anywhere. Also, it reads like a script.

Eddie squeezed a little too hard and Kurt let out an undignified squeak.

“Sorry!” Eddie blushed. “You’re just, um. Squishy. In a good way.”

“Nein-no, it’s okay,” said Kurt. “Sometimes people do that. I don’t really mind that much,” he grinned. “Just let me know, all right?”

Eddie hummed and kissed him in response, pressing their bodies together.

“Slinky,” Eddie murmured. “Slinky, not squishy.”
--Eddie/Kurt weirdness. Oh come on, they're practically asking for it. TAILS, you guys.

“Did you see Zachary Zatara?” he hissed under his breath.

“You got a crush, Eddie?” asked Rose. “You would.”

“Come on! Look at him,” said Eddie. “Are you saying you wouldn’t hit that?”

“Eh,” Rose shrugged, giving him the once-over. “He’s gay.”

“You sure?” he raised his eyebrows. “You haven’t even talked to the guy.”

“Positive,” she grinned. “Besides, Tim’s brother is hot.”

“Jason?” squawked Eddie. “But he’s crazy!”

Rose gave him a look.

--Teen Titans high school AU, where they all live in LA and Rose and Eddie are bestest friends and Zatanna and Zach live in a beach house and everything is wonderful.

They were different when they were alone. Zachary was different. His bravado, his cocksure half-charm and smirking impertinence almost melted away and his ego sank to a near-normal size. It had taken years, years before Eddie had gotten through to him, before he was willing to let his guard down and just be. Back when they were kids it had been like pulling teeth to get him to admit he cared. But then they grew up, and while Zachary hadn’t abandoned his strutting, catty demeanor, he’d sort of let Eddie inside it. They could curl up together, on the couch, and watch a couple movies without Zachary declaring that the whole situation was so twee that it made him want to vomit. He could ask Zachary a favor and Zachary, though he might grumble and whine, would do it.

Booster blinked. Apparently the world had gone batshit crazy while he wasn’t looking. He poked Rip.

“Rip,” he said. “Rip, it’s the TARDIS.”

‘Very funny,” said Rip, without even turning to look.

“No, really,” he said. “Look!”

Rip sighed and turned around.

“While I’m impressed with the reference, Booster, I hardly think-oh. Oh, I see.”

Booster grinned sheepishly.

“Yep.”

“I didn’t know you watched sci-fi, Booster.”

“Ted liked it.”

“Oh.”

“Yep.”
