'cedes, you up for a mall trip with Blaine and myself?

That text had been sent over two hours ago, and Kurt had yet to get a reply. He was beginning to be concerned. Was she mad at them? From his calculations, they had been their usual fabulous selves last time they were together, though it had been a regrettably long time since then. But that was what he was trying to remedy!

Hey. Not sure if you got my last message. Blaine and I are heading to the mall in a few minutes. Meet us there?

He never got a reply to that one either.

Kurt mentioned his concerns Blaine as they sit, coffees in hand on a bench in the mall. Though comfort it seems to be a lost cause with the dark haired boy, and all he can offer up as an explanation is that maybe her phone had died.

Mercedes' phone is never dead.

X.xThat Monday, Kurt made a beeline toward the diva's locker, standing beside her one hand on his hip.

"Are we okay?” he asked, getting straight to the point.

Mercedes looked more than a little surprised.

"what?! Hon, of course. Why wouldn't we be?"

Kurt's eyebrows went up, "...Saturday? The mall? You... Well, you didn't text me back, and I was worried..."

Mercedes just shook her head, small smile gracing her mouth, "We're fine. I had been hanging with Sam, and my phone was on silent. By the time I got your messages, it was too late. I didn't bother replying, because I didn't want to interrupt you and Blaine's time, was all." and then she walked away.

Kurt stood there, stunned.
Wait, hanging out with SAM?

Mercedes flopped back onto her bed, smiling so hard she felt like her face might just rip in half. She was exhausted. But she was pretty sure she had never had so much fun.

Sam had shown up at her door, by surprise, at eight in the morning. He handed her a funny hat and told her to put comfortable shoes on. And then they were off.

Apparently, Sam worked at a million different (really weird) places. Each with it's own benefits. She tagged along for day.

A bowling alley (she got free soda and he taught her to get a strike everytime), a fast food place themed in the future (She ate lime glow-in-the-dark jello cubes and passed out free glow-sticks.), and at a hockey rink (they drove Around, full speed, in the zamboni giggling an hoping not to get caught.)

But the best part was when she was stuck in that smelly pizza delivery car, radio blasting as they sang really loud, and really out of tune. Because they didn't have anything to prove. And it felt so, so, SO good.

It wasn't a date, is the thing. And she can't say she wanted it to be. Because Sam was just this really sweet guy. This really sweet guy who genuinely cared about her, because Sam was just... Well, genuine.

Mercedes couldn't figure out why she didn't see it before.

And she couldn't help but wonder, if this is how friends worked. Her and the girls and Kurt went shopping and gossiped and they were her best friends. But Sam and her did things that should have been agonizingly boring. But because it was Sam… Well…

Sam made her feel like she was 7.

And she hadn't realized how much she missed that.
