so. i have to give this speech tonite at the national honor society induction ceremony, since i/m the secretary and what not. here it is, in case any of you might like to read it. and none of you will be there. so. here it is.
Hello, my name is Johnna Roark, and I am the secretary of National Honor Society for the 2003-2004 school year. Tonight I was asked to talk to you about character. So, in writing this speech, I started out the way most anyone would by asking myself, "So, what is character exactly?" And as I was thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that character isn’t always something that you’re born with. It’s something that is built within you over the years. It’s something that takes time to develop. Character isn’t given freely. It’s all up to you what you choose to do with yours and what to make of it.
This year has been a hard year for Middletown High School. It is never an easy thing to have to say goodbye to someone, even two someone’s at that, and just go on at the turn of a new day. But despite the great losses that we, together, have suffered, it has helped in the shaping of our characters. In times of loss and grief, it’s difficult to go on, but they also spark something inside of you to make a change and do something for someone else. It strengthens your character and your desire to make life better for someone else, even if its only one person.
By being a part of National Honor Society, I have been given opportunities to participate in things that I may not have on my own, and I have been rewarded greatly for it. It has shown me how to live life to the fullest by giving to others. And when I say that I mean by taking time out of my life for someone else to help benefit them. And this is what has made my character stronger, by making a difference.
If each of you didn’t have what it takes to make a difference, you wouldn’t be here tonight. So I congratulate you on your achievements, academically, athletically, artistically, musically, and voluntarily. Each of you has shown that you indeed have character of great proportion that is worth recognition. I wish all of you the best of luck in whatever it is that you choose to do in life, and I hope that you walk away from your experience with National Honor Society as rewarded as I have been. And remember-your character is what you choose to make of it.
so. yep. there it is.
mrs. stine told me i should put light blue streaks in my hair today (...?). yeah. i don/t think that/s gonna happen.
